OEM is a much better way to go, and costs generally a lot less, if you are driving continually in a really dirty environment...
Hate to mix you up even more, but...one side of the horn should have +12v and the thumb switch connects the other side to ground in order to activate the horn.
(Most automotive and bike electrics are like this.)
^^^Assuming you are talking about on the track...you should look into a steering dampener and also check your head bearings.
If you are talking about on the highway....check for a "loose nut" at the controls.

What I've found is that any bike worth restoring has a certain following of people...those people have likely already gotten together in some forum somewhere and have discussed every nuance of the bike to death and can help newbies...
