A really pleasant insurance experience for a first time rider

Good catch, I missed the connection - a first (and likely last) time poster raving about a commercial product. Reviews on the company are all five star and dated within a few days of each other. An employee Suzanne Robinson is listed as an underwriter. Same last name as OP. Broker based in...

IF MC insurance was $400/yr, would you own more than one bike?

Have a summer car, winter car, road bike and dirt bike (this one is not insured). Have lots of options and don't want to pay more for insurance even if it is only $400. If I only had a road bike and nothing else, then yes I would likely want another road bike for $400 insurance. While most of us...

    Fonda Hopper Easy Rider route

Some sections still good, with many more sections of broken pavement abandoned and rarely used even by locals. Some sections are swallowed by the sands of the deserts and pavement is completely covered over, barely navigable except AWD, 4WD or adventure bikes, and not a house or building in...

Tell Ontario you want better motorcycle insurance - the petition is live

Need more info, one policy for two bikes, and then switch...when and for how long, each month?...how often?.....can't see any insurer putting up with this for long.

Finnish firm, RMK, debuts electric motorcycle with hubless rear wheel

Hmmm, hubless rear wheel, looks cool but not practical. Get a bit of grit and mud accumulated over time, and I'm sure it will seize. Doubt that dependable technology is there, and that would include the electric motor and battery. Being the first kid on the block to get one these, these days...

    Riding the southwest in Febuary

Good luck with that this year. The West (from the South West to the North West) has had sustained unusually low/freezing temperatures. It snowed in Hawaii a week ago, and today Las Vegas got about an inch (you know...Global Warming...all man-made). Not a good year this year. Although if you...

Germany’s Fight Over Speed-Limits On The Autobahn

Reducing speed would save a few lives but nothing major, as only some of the very high end cars like Porsche are so few and are traveling at sustained light speed. Accidents are mainly caused by speed differentials, so if the bulk of traffic is moving at say 120 kph, then it's a very safe drive...

Germany’s Fight Over Speed-Limits On The Autobahn

The little experience I've had on the autobahn was that 99% drive at between 110kph and 130kph, like they do here on the 400. Rare is the guy who blasts past at 180+. At those excessive sustained speeds, engines suck the very expensive European gas like small aircraft. Most intelligent people...

Ontario Insurance Reform - Can we be loud unough to hear?

Be sure to include a photo of yourself. That will be enough for them to listen.

    Motorcycle through front door?

Each year I store my dirt bike in a cabin up north. The door is also 30" and bars 3 to 4" longer. I can't believe I need to explain this. 1. Walk the bike to the door threshold 2. Open the door 3. Turn the front wheel slightly in one direction or the other depending on what side the door is...

    USB Handlebar Device

I installed such a device and went through 3 batteries before I realized that by not having an on/off switch means that there is a slight parasitic draw. My next project is doing just that; installing an on/off switch. Note that the draw on the battery is so small, daily riding will keep the...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2018 Edition)

And then there are those who are thinking about packing it in, for the season.

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2018 Edition)

As a devoted rider who is not averse to occasionally riding up to cottage country at night in late Summer when overnight temps occasionally approach 0, I stare at this not knowing whether to applaud and yell BRAVO! or suggest he get some sort of crisis counseling. It's like a line from one of...

    H-D Livewire pricing...

Another mystery to the universe now answered! Ever wonder how VW engines generally develop peak torque at a ridiculously low 1,600 RPM and hold it to 4,500 RPM? Japanese and most other engines gradually build torque which peaks at 5,000 RPM. I had always thought it was some magic ratio of bore...

Ontario Insurance Reform - Can we be loud unough to hear?

If Ontario riders want to raise awareness for unfair rates then this survey is a good start to making riders' views known. The Ontario insurance survey ends mid February so hurry. The free-form part with a maximum of 500 words is useful to promote motorcycle concerns. I answered this way, feel...

Ontario Insurance Reform - Can we be loud unough to hear?

Re: Ontario Insurance Reform - Can we be loud enough to hear? Agreed that it is well known that Ontario pays some of the highest motorcycle insurance rates in the world, especially when you consider we are already covered for medical by the province. A major motorcycle manufacturer looked into...

I wanted to buy VW common stock just after dieselgate hit knowing that common stock would dive then rebound, but could only find VW preferred stock. I could not find a listing of VW common. VW at the end of WWII had its factory rebuilt by the British Corp of Engineers and in 1949 gave the...

    H-D Livewire pricing...

The last gasoline/diesel engine slated to be made by VW is 2026, so it is coming up fast. What no one has been able to tell me is how we (Ontario) are going to replace the gasoline/road tax. Are there going to be two meters at your home? One for the home and the other for your car and which will...

    H-D Livewire pricing...

Range of 110 miles for this electric is no big issue (drawback) for H-D and is about the same as the Forty-Eight which has a 2 gallon gas tank. Remember the brand's main draw is aesthetics, brand-name recognition and getting attention.
