    insurance from another city??

Someone else looking to beat the insurance company. How novel.

Bill 45 - An Auto Insurance Amendment Act

If I lived in Harcourt Ontario, where there is only one other car in town I would assume the likelihood of me getting into an accident is much less than say Toronto, Brampton, Montreal or any other major city. For that reason alone I'm sure we can all expect the premiums in Harcourt would be...

3 vehicle collision: not at fault

Fire dept billing is a big issue with the Insurance Bureau of Canada these days, and for good reason.

insurance (company/broker/provider) asking for a copy of vehicle ownership/title

It's also a great fraud prevention tool. It demonstrates that you actually own the bike, and not insuring it in someone elses name. Also, it catches leased vehicles (although that's not commonly a problem with motorcycles). It may even show any "brand" on the vehicle. Consider it a good...

3 vehicle collision: not at fault

You may get a fire department bill in the mail, or your insurance company might get one without your knowledge. It depends on a number of factors, but don't bet against them asking you to pay for some or all of the fire dept service, regardless of whether or not they appeared to do anything.

    Question for new riders

The OP here is full of common sense. People should listen to him/her. Everyone wants a Gixxer or CBR as their first bike. I'm still waiting for the my first Corvette but the mini van has to do for now. Maybe once the kids go off to College I'll get into the Corvette. Kids, go buy a 1990...

    Casual rider coverage

Very True, yur intent is to misrepresent the risk to the insurance company to get a lower premium. Your insurer will void your policy from the inception, which in plain language will mean you are completely screwed. Why is everyone looking for an angle. If you want to ride a motorcycle this...

    Casual rider coverage

Another guy trying to beat the system. You have to be honest with your insurance company. Tell them you're the primary rider, which I assume you will be, and see what your premiums are. It probably won't matter who owns the bike, it's based on who rides it. Now, if your intention is to...

    Insuring someone else's bike

That only applies to the taxes, not a safety certification.

    Insuring someone else's bike

Viffer and Jeffjones are correct. Just get your Dad to take out a policy, in his name, and list you as the primary rider.

    Insurance Company Won't Process Claim

Call him and ask him why he hasn't sent you a proof of loss yet. The Insurance Act requires that one be sent out within 60 days of receipt of the claim. Obviously he hasn't done that and now you've got the guy being non-complaint with the Act, which when you mention that to his manager you'll...

Not At-Fault but forced to pay $300?

If this is a Section 5 Uninsured Motorist Claim it has a $300 deductible. End of story. You have already had about $3500 plus your injury paid on your behalf, not a bad deal. In the end though you will likely be out $300 - sadly that's life. It's unlikely your insurer will sue the at fault...

    Unreasonable Smoke

It bothers me to see charges like this, especially if it's a case like the OP indicated. I suppose the police have solved all the other crimes in the area and are now moving on to smoking motorcycles. I'll be sure to shut my lawnmower off if officer Bob drives by, my lawnmower smokes a little.

Does car insurance history affect motorcycle insurance rates?

Most insurers (In fact I would have suspected all until I saw the post above about Jevco) will take into account claims on a motorcycle or Auto Policy.

Insurance questions I'm tossing around my brain

I'm twice your age. Never owned a new car and the "newest" car I have ever owned, which was only once was a 3 year old car. Here's a suggestion, forget buying a brand new car, go buy a good used car and you will save on insurance premiums and the price and may have enough left over for some...

    Secondary Rider

In that case it would be considered a "theft". Under the comprehensive section of the policy theft by a member of the household is excluded and hence any theft related damages would not be covered i.e. suppose he hot wired the bike or punched the ignition cylinder, that would not be covered...

    Secondary Rider

If someone rides your bike regularly they need to be disclosed as an operator and the appropriate premium paid. Insurers will not fall for the old "It's my Mom's bike, this was just my first time riding it" story. Trust me, they've heard that one before. You can lend your bike to anyone who...

On the job accident affecting insurance?

If he can demonstrate that this claim (which I assume is an at fault loss otherwise we wouldn't be having this discussion) is being surcharged on another policy (i.e. the auto policy for his employer) his current insurer may not take it into account and surcharge your brothers policy. I suspect...

    Fire department Bill

An argument can be made for user fees for any service, fire, police, schools, library cards, public recreation facilities etc. I'm not sure however everyone would be in favour or a user fee for a Fire Dept or say Police for example. Perhaps some people would be okay having to pay the police...
