Motorcycle mistakes you only make once... and ones you make all the time...

Remembered another mistake I made once... On a scooter, with underseat storage, it's possible to lock your key under your seat. Nowadays I could just ask someone to throw my spare key in an uber for me and I'd have my key in 15 minutes, and be home 15 minutes after that... But back then I was...

Motorcycle mistakes you only make once... and ones you make all the time...

If you're lucky! My car jumper cables don't fit in the tight little spaces half of my bike batteries are in though. Even on my jumper pack, I paid extra for a really thin/narrow pointy set of pliers/grippy things for the terminals so I could work in tight spaces of some motorcycles because the...

Yep, setting money on fire to keep yourself warm for the moment it burns.

    GPS vs Phone

Yeah when I rode across Italy I would just alternate between plugged in and unplugged.

    GPS vs Phone

Would you believe me if I said we just got one of those this weekend? My engineer missus just got one of those from her engineer dad. I have no idea how to use it. It came off a tugboat apparently. They like tugboats in that family. I don't know. Engineers are weird man.

    GPS vs Phone

Yep, you'll have android auto or apple carplay from your phone. You just wouldn't be able to use your motorcycle's own handlebar-mounted controls to change the through the settings like you can on the BMW-specific units. I can switch through everything with my left thumb.

    X-Ring Versus O-Ring Chain

When I had no car I was getting 18k km on chains. Riding rain or shine (or slush) in all conditions will kill your chain life. Parking it outdoors and having no center stand and nowhere to work on it probably didn't help. Plus he's on a KLR. Your norms probably don't apply to KLR guys. KLR...

    GPS vs Phone

I have something similar to that for BMWs as well, made by a company called Chigee. Capuride were ********. They offered to send me product, pay me to review their product in a YouTube video. Then after I made the video, decided not to pay after all. I removed huge portions of the video and...

I always keep a spare lithium in the garage for testing purposes. Small enough to fit in any bike, mighty enough to work on any bike.

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

I was out doing some suspension testing today, to so-so results. Tried going a little hard on the Progressive Suspension rear shocks I put on my Sportster Iron 1200... Yes, they're one full step up from stock... but I guess I was hoping for a two step improvement... Next, I tested out some...

    GPS vs Phone

That's because you do more riding where there are interesting things like trees and ditches to explore. Back here in Chrawno, all we have is bike lanes and crackheads.

    X-Ring Versus O-Ring Chain

Mid-size bike I'd probably be fine and happy with an O ring if it saves enough.... big displacement I'd spend the extra. Why? Because I'm stupid and it feels right? Idunno.

    GPS vs Phone

I spent 25 days riding across Italy using just my phone. No GPS unit. It rained for the first two weeks. The country was flooding. 17 people died. Some days I put it in a ziplock bag, some days I just let it get wet. That phone still works great. Not being too glove-friendly is a totally valid...

Mistake I make all the time: "Just one more bike." He lied to himself, and to everyone else around him, but in that moment he meant every word.

    Rabaconda tire changer

Got around to making a video with my sentiments on the Rabaconda. This thing does work. It actually does make tire changes just that damn easy. If you were doing track days a lot I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. It also will definitely not make sense for everyone. Especially at the price...

Who's still riding? (Fall & Winter 2024 Edition)

Finally got enough snow melted/out of the driveway that the bike can squeeze by the truck without me having to pull one vehicle out to get to the other. Normal winter errands on two wheels should resume for the first time in a few weeks now that it isn't a two vehicle shuffle to go for a ride.
