Weather for this Friday night looks good so I am hoping to get the Wing out to St Thomas Dragway.

Test & Tune Friday night. 15$ for spectators. 40$ if you ride/drive up and want to test your mettle.

If you've never pulled up to the tree and staged I highly recommend it. Quite the adrenaline rush.

If you make it out I should be easy to find. I'll be dressed in red, white and blue leathers circa 1980 and I doubt even a blind man could miss this bike.DragWing 3.jpg

Have you had the Wing out there before? The best thing about the strip is not looking around for the cops. I rode at Cayuga long ago on my `78 GS1000, my best pass was 11.78 @ 111, your Wing may be about the same. My launches, 60ft, weren`t great. You`re right...every rider should give it a shot.

@Brian P went on a kick at one point converting his well-loved sport bike into the best drag bike it could be while still remaining a useful bike on the street. There is a great thread of all the tweaks he was doing and why. I'm not sure how many passes he did with it before he went back to the street full time with it.

Not many; the dragstrip wasn't my vibe.

@Gary Actually St Thomas does both apparently. My slips were all 1/4 times.
Managed about 7 passes. At 8:45 the guy in the staging area asked if I had a light I could put on. I didn't but agreed to make it my last pass and he let me go. The far end of the run off was getting dark so it was a good call. Flubbed a few but my good runs were low 13's so OK for the first attempt.
More practice will help me to figure out whether my best runs need to involve 4th gear or not. Squeeze took a bunch of pics, I'll try and send some shortly.

Grand Bend does 1/4 mile runs for bikes and sleds.

Hips still complaining mildly about riding that thing all Friday night.

Is it ok to say ?
Ride in a straight line.

I know nothing about drag...... Of either kind.
If you can leave a stoplight you have all the skills required to give it a whirl. The friendly folks in St Thomas will help you with everything else you need to know. (Basically Go Fast, Have Fun, Don't Crash)

I`m not certain of the rules now, used to be full leathers were required if you ran sub 12`s. You could wear jeans up to a 12 second flat run. A full road racing setup is best.

And ride around the burnout box, i.e. avoid the liquid.

Oh frick I've been wading right in and doing a little wheel spin to warm it up, just cuz it's fun.

And before the next outing I mean to check and see what the tire pressure is. Never even checked last go round.

Checked my slips finally.
Turns out I made 8 passes. My three best were: 13.15, 13.15 and 13.04. A run into the 12s must be close.
