E bikes rampaging Toronto streets

Sometimes things got a bit sideways though as a kid. I saw a 12 year old dude get a target arrow stuck in his face, below the eye, playing in a park. He was OK though. We were on a farm taking turns shooting at a rusty old 50`s Chevy using a .303, when one of our group popped up from behind it. He was car crazy and was trying to remove some part off it. Oooops. Another time a bunch of us melting lead on a Coleman stove, my friends dad used it for making models and dioramas for the ROM and elsewhere, his stuff was amazing. One genius pours a glass of water into a large pot of boiling lead,...BOOM!!, we were all spattered with molten lead. Or the homemade flamethrower that almost burned a friend`s parents house down, that scared the shite out of us, we almost didn`t get the basement carpet put out. Everyone my age `prolly has a bunch more stories.

Was stopped more than once riding laps around the perimeter of our fields in Pickering when I was a kid. Usually by railway police (CP Rail) strangely enough.
Rail police are really spicy. I got stopped by them going into a yard for a meeting with a rail staff member. They were very grumpy that I didn't know which office he was in. I was meeting him in the lobby, his office number was not important to me. I thought we were going to get all the way to phone a friend to get them to let me go to the meeting that I was now late for.

There seems to be a common theme here. For most people, number of kids is inversely proportional to quantity/value of bikes in the stable.
I figure my kids cost me about $200k each. X 3 kids is a lot of motorcycles.

You must have really good money management skill, I`ve read and heard economists and financial planners say it (probably now ) is well into the 300K range. They must have been sick of No Name mac & cheese and hot dogs. :p

His kids have kids. He was probably done his legal obligation to support about a decade ago.

My kids were born in the early 90s, and we lived in the USA for half their childhoods.

They ate well, a Big Mac combo was $3.99 in California, gas was 1.10/gallon, beer was $7/24.

Who would suffer if they really clamped down on e-bikes and their kin?

How about Uber? They make money hand over fist on food and deliveries 📦 Any chance they are lobbying?

It would hammer lower income people and many people would bring out their pitchforks as a class war.

Uber washes enough money that they could afford to equip the proper vehicles/insurance/licensing required. It probably wouldn't even cost uber much. They would dump the costs on the delivery agents. IIRC, they have minimum standards for age and cleanliness for uber cars. Meanwhile, most normal taxis are the road are clapped out and sound like they are falling apart. When uber sees a reason too, they exceed minimum legal standards.

Just saw a stand up scooter fly past a photo radar at 172 speeds today. I didn’t know they could go that fast. It’s getting dangerous to go for a walk, especially if you travel mixed use paths where the speed limit is 20 kph.

Some can get close to 100 kph. Obviously completely illegal to use in public.

I've seen them keeping up with traffic at 80+ kms.
Of course, no helmet, tank top & shorts and vaping,..

I may buy a modest e-bike after prudent investigation.
I live near a trail where railroad tracks were removed to make
a scenic ride exclusively for electric and pedal-powered bikes,
so I will rent one and see if I like the new opportunities more
than I miss the horsepower of my CBR-250.
