Is a simple four into one header straight piped the best exhaust?

Straight piped 4 into 1 open no muffler header is the best?

Is a simple four into one header straight piped open no muffler the best set up? If this is not the best set up, what is? If your gonna ride a loud bike, i do, why not just run the header straight piped out the side bottom out the way and roll it open. Why not? Is there really a muffler that gives more horses if you run straight piped no muffler?
 
There are mufflers that provide negligible hit to to power while not pissing off everyone in the world. Loud bikes cause complaints and regulatory blowback. Don't try to be an ass and that process is much slower. I don't think there is a muffler for a four-stroke that increases power over a straight pipe.

Header design on the other hand can have a massive effect on power (and where it happens in the rev range). For some engines 4-2-1 outperforms 4-1 as you get better scavenging. It depends on firing order, cam design, available space and a ton of other factors which header design is "best".
 
My bike, FZ6R, the R6 thats been tuned down, I removed the stock 4-2-1 and replaced it with a 4-1 on a eight inch muffler, bro it got a ton of boost, then i got the commander 6 tuner and got even more power. Then I got a 4 degree timing advance plate, bro this 600 will roll, eight inch muffler, when I remove it it gains noticeable power. So your right any muffler that affects on power are small. My eight inch affects it, so I want one that has the less affect, I was praying that someone knew of a muffler that added power but I guess thats a no go

Who makes your current muffler? Buying a muffler from a brand that cares (like Akrapovic) vs a generic aliexpress muffler gives you better odds that airflow was considered and the entire budget wasn't sunk into appearance and marketing.

If you are chasing all the buyer, buy some time at a dyno shop. They can get more done in a few hours than you can get done in a year. It's tough to tune a vehicle that is accelerating rapidly.
 
I mean, aside from the curiosity of putting so much effort into tuning that particular motor in that way, the main reason I understand not to just hack the pipe off wherever is that it can create back-pressure in the exhaust which can actually rob power because it slows the exhaust strokes coming across the cylinder head somewhat. A well tuned exhaust will use the resonance to create a vacuum in time with the exhaust strokes to help the cylinder at peak power quickly flush any non-combustible gases. Look at how MotoGP exhausts snake around and even do full loops to make sure they're the appropriate length to get peak power.

If you're going to do home tuning, make sure you're using something objectively measurable beyond something just feeling faster. The old butt dyno is notoriously unreliable, and things like ear-splitting volume can make something feel faster even if it isn't. Unless you're running a race team and have the time, money and equipment for extensive dyno time, you're almost always better off running a known exhaust using a well-developed map tuned for that exhaust.

And please, don't ride your shriekbox anywhere near my house. Or anyone's house, for that matter...
 
Delkevic full 4-1 with stainless steal 8 inch muffler, that replacing the stock was a good move, it opened it up like you wouldn't believe this thing is a beast, with a few mods you can make a FZ6R a threat to other 600s out there. All started with the exhaust running without a muffler, even my little 8 inch one, gets the best power. Plus the 4-1 sounds more deep in my opinion, just love the 4-1 I wish there was a muffler to quiet it some but not kill the power

As a start, look for long and large diameter. That allows for flow and silencing.

It depends on the bike. There are no street motorcycles that I know of that gain power from straight pipes.

All you can expect from a decent muffler is 2hp. A full tuned exhaust coupled with a proper tune might give you 8-10hp on a 600.

Straight pipes on most bikes decreases hp, even with a tune.

Some of the older carbureted bikes would see a big boost in horsepower with a 4 into 1 header, newer fuel injected bikes should too but that’s not always the case without dyno tuning. The biggest benefit is the weight reduction by going to an aftermarket exhaust which also benefits handling. Generally speaking, every six pounds of weight reduction is like gaining an extra horsepower and it’s not uncommon to reduce your exhaust systems weight by 12-15 pounds or more by going to an aftermarket pipe. When you have a stock exhaust and an aftermarket system side by side you realize how much lighter the aftermarket ones are. Hindle makes some incredibly light pipes(made in Canada). I had a Honda VFR 800 that I put a nice Yosh pipe on along with a Power Commander. It sounded great but there was no noticeable power gain. I’ve always said the best money you can spend to improve the performance of your bike is to keep fresh, quality( not necessarily expensive) tires on it. Once you do that then start thinking about an aftermarket exhaust

I remember the early 2000’s Suzuki 1200 Bandits would get an easy 18 horsepower with a slip on and a jet kit. A buddy of mine did that and said it was night and day.

Uncorking fuel delivery is responsible for almost all of that, not exhaust.

What kind of pipe will piss off the most non riding members of society? If you piss off enough will you make it harder for the rest of us?

Loud pipes do not save lives they risk rights.
