New BMW R1300RT

Lots of tech and lots of ugly. Each manufacturer appears to follow the same concepts of packing more and more tech and nannies into their bikes and making them hideous at the same time. The organic riding experience is disappearing.

Amen.

I find it much more engaging to know I'm in charge of every aspect of the ride, managing traction while accelerating, braking, turning.

Call me old-fashioned, I like to shift with a clutch, hold the bike on a hill with the rear brake and spin the rear wheel (or choose not to) with the throttle. If I get too close to the car in front of me on the highway, I either roll off the throttle, or use the brakes. No fancy radar required.

*shrug* at least there's still dirtbikes, old bikes and the Race Mode/Rally Mode/All Nannies Off mode...

Agreed. Prefer the out going model. Love the K1600 I have but if my wife said she's done riding with me, the 1250RT would take its place.

Unless it has added safety features it's garbage - generally leads to more eyes off the road. At first I was against traction control, but I have heard it actually works quite well from a number of riders that it has saved (never used it personally). But all the extra gadgets - It's no different than buying cars that give you an indicator for your blind spot or ones that have a parallel park option. You're teaching drivers to be lazy and they become worse because of it.

I don't mind the safety features to save you if you screw up but I would prefer if the driver/rider was taught a lesson to avoid leaving the driving to the computer. Something like a swift kick in the ass when the computer intervenes. Hard enough that you want to do the best you can to avoid getting kicked again. That leaves you alive but not entirely reliant on technology to stay that way.

Traction control can be good or bad, depends on the brand from what I can tell. If your model has adjustable TC then even better.

Iirc my S1000XR saved me from a lowside twice due to TC. Only 1 of the 2 times I was being a moron.

I don’t disagree, but I’ve had blind spot detection on my bike for a couple seasons now and I really like it. It’s a feature I can’t stand in a car, but knowing when someone is right beside me when I’m on a bike is very helpful. Not a must have, but definitely worthwhile tech imho.

Also….graphics aside, that’s one of the nicer looking RTs. Love that they’re going with that headlight style across the range.

What I actually dislike the most about that thing is the popped-out "media tablet" style of dashboard. I hate that crap on cars, and I think it has even less of a place on a motorcycle.

The tech stuff? Meh, it's fine. The 60-70 year olds buying these things could probably use the help anyway

Agreed. Looks like an after thought that doesn't really fit the space.
