shop-motea.com Experiences?

I'm looking at some of their products which seem well-priced, but reviews of the store itself are a mixed bag. Shipping times, lack of tracking information, and customer support seem to be the most common complaints.

It looks like they're based somewhere in Europe and would ship via FedEx/UPS. Shipping rates seem quite reasonable.

Has anyone ordered from these guys, and if so did you have any issues at all ? How about brokerage/duties coming in?

It's very weird. I believe "Motea.com" is an actual business - there are lots of (mixed) reviews and reports of buying from them and receiving product on various forums. But they make it very, very hard for customers to understand what is going on.

As far as I can tell, "motea.com" is their business serving the EU. Elsewhere (NA?) "motea-shop.com" is their storefront. I've seen posts about this online - and I believe "motea.com" will redirect to "motea-shop.com", but I can't find my way back to these posts and can't get it to happen myself (say if I enter USA as the shipping location, because only EU locations are valid on motea.com). So maybe I read that motea-shop is just the NA storefront and there is no redirect.

"shop-motea.com" will redirect to "motea.com". Weirdly, WHOIS on GoDaddy suggests the former domain name is available - this may be a problem with their WHOIS lookup: asking Google for Whois record returns "The domain name "shop-motea.com" is associated with MOTEA GmbH, a German company. It is an online store for motorcycle parts and accessories. The registered office is in Meinerzhagen, Germany. "

"shop-motea.com" definitely resolves so not sure what's going on there.

Prices on the "motea-shop" storefront are way cheaper in CAD than the equivalent in Euros on "motea.com". The amount of the discount they're offering on their banner differs too.

The poor customer service reviews lead me to believe this is a real business - because how weird would it be to put out crappy fake reviews?

Anyways - hoping someone here has had experience.

I only have anecdotal evidence from a Tiger 660's FB group, where quite a few people have purchased crash bars for their bikes from Motea, and have not expressed any complaints about them.

Last year, I was tempted to get one of their stands similar to the ABBA stand, because it was cheaper by a margin. However, I ultimately decided against it.

What is it you're ordering exactly? Have you considered AliExpress as well? It's perhaps more reputable in the end, and I've got some great deals on MC stuff there over the years. Some of it is name brand stuff without the branding applied, flowing out the back door of the factories that make the legit stuff of course, but good stuff nonetheless.

Here's a few reviews or experiences I found about "Motea". I provide them not as proof that they are (or are not) legit - but just to show that there are experiences people have reported - they are mixed in terms of overall support, but nothing that clearly indicates it is an out-and-out scam.

I confess it IS strange that I find so many POOR reviews to be reassuring.

@PacoT I'd be happy to take a look at those posts - especially to figure out which domain they ordered from.

This might have been the stand you were looking at? It's their Bursig clone - I don't see an ABBA-style clone. He links to motea.com. As far as I can tell, "Constands" is branded and sold by Motea. I understand there are probably more than a few companies rebadging the same stands which are almost certainly made in China.

I've bought quite a few things from AliExpress for my bikes and not yet been disappointed, even while fully expecting to be.

I'm looking at their Bursig clones. I don't see anything like those on AliExpress. I have a problem which could be solved if I could rotate my bike around easily in a very tight space (shipping container), and something like a Bursig could be just the ticket.

Oh yes. You are correct. I was getting confused with the ABBA sky-something-something.

I cannot link those posts here, but I've included screenshots of some of them.
