@MacDoc thanks for the tip and the link, I had thought of the wind affecting it but the Timmy's is two buildings over from my workplace, I won't even get out of first in that distance so I don't think that would be an issue. If I'm going to be riding for a few hours I usually put a couple of water bottles in my tank bag.

I bought a cheap bicycle bottle holder for the Goldwing, a couple of bucks at Walmart. I can take a sip when I stop.
 
I have one and never installed it. I usually stop every couple of hours anyway, and prefer to relax having a drink. I can see why some people have them since it can get really hot on certain trips where you want to make time.
 
I have one, brought at a bicycle shop. I used it for getting my morning coffee before i got to work, coffee shop around corner. never used it while riding though. Like to get off bike on long rides, stop and have drink, carry on.

I went into a car store and asked for an ashtray for a motorcycle. She went and looked. Could not find any. My My.
 
I will ordering a Moto Jug for my ST1300 in the new year (once Christmas is paid for) My bike can easily go 450km on a tank of gas and I am guilty of occasionally going that far without a break! The bite valve from the Moto Jug can be secured to a tank bag or to your jacket on a retractable lanyard. Insert under your helmet chin or through the visor and sip away. It's hands free and if you let it go the lanyard just puts it back in place. Being able to take a sip or two every 30min or so is going to be much better than chugging a 500ml bottle at the next gas station 4hrs+ later!

I used to have one just so I could pick up coffee on my way to work because we didn't have a coffee machine or nearby coffee shop at work.

Why not use a camelbak? I guess if you don't have one, motojug is cheaper.

As for the distance between stops, I knew my wife was a keeper when we drove back from Chicago without stopping. No longer have a TDI so now a stop is necessary.

Wait a minute. It sits on the passenger pegs? That's a big hell no from me. On long rides, I normally pop up to the passenger seat in boring sections to change the angles of all of my joints.

Second problem I see is you have to suck water through a straw from well below your butt. Without a pressurized vessel or pump, that will be far from easy.

Still have to pick-up one of these this year.
I am a slow drinker, always a pain in the butt having to either chug my coffee or drink or toss it.
Most things aren't sealed either so you can't just throw it into a backpack.
Once tried to balance and hold a ice cap around the block home from a friends house, almost made it home then it tipped when i accelerated a little hastily. :(

All good but the ashtray -- I took mine off because it didn't work too well.

At $75 US for the Moto Jug system and still having to buy the jug at HellMart, it's on par with most hydration packs. I have a Geigerrig hydration pak which is pressurized and I love it, but after about a 2hr hike I'm ready to take it off! It would be the same on a bike. For an hour or two it wouldn't bother me, but when I hit the 1000km mark and still have another 610km to go before I quit there is no way I could wear one that long!

I don't mind that it sits on the passenger peg. I never have a passenger and the ST is so comfortable I never feel the need to put my feet on them. As for the suction part I don't think it'll be a problem. Everyone I've spoken to about the MJ on various LD forums loves it and says that it isn't hard to get the water flowing.

How many litres is your hydration pack? Is it truly that much weight on your back on a long ride that it creates an issue? I have a cheap (like $30 on sale) 1L one from crappy tire that does the trick. Keeps my jacket tighter so it doesn't flap in the wind, and the water is done in a couple hours. Weighs very little. After a couple hundred k's I need fuel and want off the bike to stretch anyways. Good time to refill.
