What was your first street bike?

First bike was a 67/68? Yamaha "Twin Jet" 100cc. That was a typical bike for the time and I could afford it. I had previously frequently ridden a bicycle and once rode a friends basket case 2 stroke though a fence. I burned my poor little bike out. It was great because it was my first taste...

First Bike Purchase - Street or Dual Sport - Thoughts + Considerations Appreciated

Re: First Bike Purchase - Street or Dual Sport - Thoughts + Considerations Apprecia I switched to D/S's 2 bikes ago when I got sick of the weight of my Bandit. I would get the Suzuki 400 in a minute but right now my wife and I tour on a V-Strom 650. A dual sport will let you go anywhere...

Where do you buy your gear? Recommend me the cheapest local and online retailers...

Re: Where do you guy your gear? Recommend me the cheapest local and online retailers. There are a few good vendors for e-mail, Twisted Throttle is one. The problem with a lot of US dealers is they either don't ship to Canada or they want an outlandish amount to do it. If you do order, specify...

    Corbin Seats Rant

A lot of US companies won't ship to Canada. I won't run to Buffalo to give them business, no matter what kind of deal. Many aren't really interested so they either charge a fortune for shipping or leave everything for a single UPS pick-up. UPS charges high brokerage fees, often higher that the...

    Grab rail extensions??

From what I can see, if the passenger holds the grab rails, the hands are directly under the hips. this isn't so much an anchor as a pivot point. If they loose their balance backwards as in rapid acceleration, there is nowhere to pull against to counter the force pulling them backwards, so they...

    Help for a beginner

At your size and weight, a Kawasaki KLR 650 is a good bet. they have been the same since the 80's until 2006-ish. They've been ridden around the world, through easy woods trails and for commuting. They are tall, roomy and reasonably powered for a newer rider. Then you step up to a V-Strom.

    Undecided and Confused.

You already ride, so you should have the basics down. Now you should be OK with almost anything, but!, remember the different classes of where you are going. i had a bandit 1200 - a Camero or Mustang level vehicle, you can get the equivilent to a Corvette or a Ferrari. You now drive a nice...

Getting Back On The Ride, After Injury

Mine weren't that bad. 60 stiches in my leg - made a rule, no more riding into fences, Excellent looking summersualt over bars- made a rule not to hit things that made the front wheel stop. Broke my foot/ankle/ripped calf muscles when hit by a van and couldn't drive my car dure to leg...

    Motorcycle Transport- Ottawa to Toronto

After 28 yrs of police work, including supervising a traffic unit, IN MY OPINION , U Haul is the worst on the road. If it's a really cool bike, I think I have to go to Ottawa and will drive it back - really fast.

What's the WORST Bike You've Ever Owned?

It's the late 60's Honda 175 that had no handling and could be out run by a bicycle. Its ignition switch wore out, the mufflers rotted and the footpeg assembly fell off. I regretted replacing my Yamaha 100cc "Twinjet" 2 cyl 2-stroke with it. I loved the Yamaha. It was great except for seizing...

Looking for a great route to Quebec City from Toronto

Hwy 2 leads from just east of T.O. and follows the lakeshore and small towns most of the way to the Que. border.

Close call ... glad to be here and typing

Probably your fault. You forgot to remove your invisibility cloak before riding. Seriously, good planning, good riding, good instructional opportunity. Maybe he'll won't kill the next rider.

    Best breakfast joints?

FLIPS, Main St Brampton (Hwy10) south of Bovaird. Any Sunset Grill, any Coras, John's on Hwy 10 north of Shelburne (please don't go on Sunday around lunch - it's hard enough to get a table)

    oakville riders on Saturday

I had the misfortune of being on Lakeshore Road on Sunday afternoon. There were a lot of bikes touring the street, back and forth, but the only group the was really a problem was a group of four riders on sportbikes who confused the street with a drag strip. Screaming exhausts, over-reving...
