machine shop broke a head stud

Thanks for the reassurance guys. I got similar opinions on another forum so I think I'll be okay. I'll go pay my machinist for his work. I try not to publicly say negative things about shops unless there's something systemically wrong with it. My case looks like a typical problem and a commonly...

machine shop broke a head stud

Hi all, I sent my cylinder head to get decked and I just got a call from the shop saying that they damaged the threads while attempting to remove it one of the header studs from the head. Apparently a helicoil was used to repair the stud.... Is this an appropriate repair?

I don't think vapour lock would prevent the motor from turning.

    Warm starting issues

The difficulty in cranking makes me think its electrical. Maybe the rectifier? Otherwise on these older carbed bikes, I'd say jetting or vapour lock.

    painting dirt bike chassis

A quick update to this old thread. I ended up powder coating the whole thing with a basic medium gloss black (forget the exact name). I took the frame to Johnny's new location. The parts came back looking good and show no signs of wearing yet. Before After

    Titanium nitride

Let me know what the rates are. I might outsource the coating and do all the assembly/disassembly myself or outsource the whole thing depending on the price of the lower fork tubes. I already got some quotes for anodizing and they arn't that bad. Firefox racing in the UK offers a service that...

    Motion Pro Axis Truing-Balance Stand

The motion pro one looks cool. Its got an indicator for turing wheels. Looks like it relies on the bearings of the wheel itself to rotate though which means if your wheels use sealed bearings (I'm pretty sure most wheels do) it might cause too much friction.

    painting dirt bike chassis

Heh. Point taken. The bike actually didn't look that dirty until I started taking it apart. Most of what you see on the floor came from hidden cavities in the swingarm. I even found a whole pinecone! When that pic was taken the carb and exhaust were still on so the motor so I doubt any dirt got...
