You must feel great after almost 1.5 years. I am assuming you feel no more pain and while I didn’t have a knee replacement I had a total hip replaced mid February this year and have been out today. Still have limited strength.
Yes insurance affects us all, I got rid of the SS and I’m 62, âge and years of riding doesn’t seem to matter, I feel for all of us. This bike was just over $1k a year, it is what it is .

This is exactly what I would do , your dad is correct and reasonable with riding again. I'm also a father of 2, girls albeit, but I would certainly be concerned and give it a bit of time.

As D has noted, unless you trailer your bike there, should you crash you have to find an alternative way to get home. And yes you will be both mentally and physically exhausted after the day.
It always depends, however I find being smooth in corners requires not being too low in a gear.
Try being in a higher gear than you think, if too tall back off one.
