FZ07 shut down and stalling

two issues...2015 FZ07 with 19200 km...oil changed about 250 km ago...air filter and spark plugs checked abut 1000 km ago (by dealer - both said to be fine)

1. any idea what this might be...i was cruising in 4th gear around 4000 rpm, downshifting into 3rd for a roundabout and lost power...dash lights were still on, oil light came on, but no power from the throttle...coasted to a stop, put 4 ways on, shut it off, of course the 4 ways shut off, so i turned the key back on and tried starting it, fired right up...rode home no issues,,,temp said 104C...any guesses?

2. secondary issue...had the bike recently serviced and dealer said air filter and spark plugs were fine (about 19200 km on the odometer)...every once in a while, when trying to pull away from a complete stop, it stalls...haven't even moved my clutch lever and it stalls, like it's not getting fuel...any guesses to this one?

Sidestand switch could do both of those. If the switch tells the bike the sidestand is down (even if it isn't) and you are in gear, it will cut the engine.

Fuel injected bike? check for fuel pressure problems.

@GreyGhost thanks...I'll check YouTube to see how I can check that out

@Trials yes, it's FI...again, I'll check YouTube to see how to do that...

I'm good with oil changes and chain maintenance, and that's about it LOL

Not a bad idea but I'd be surprised. Normally fuelling issues would be in the map (ie not new problems for her) or at high throttle & high revs. At idle with the clutch in, it is hard not to have enough fuel to run. I would still dump in injector cleaner though. If the jets are slightly boogered, the droplets and flow rate may be off.

If you ride it spirited does that make it worse, if so you are running out of fuel just like you thought. (water or dirt in fuel filter)
Do all cylinders run equal hot? if not then the problem might be an injector or something local to one or two cylinders.

I had fuel filter canisters split and leak pressure, but that made it perform like **** all the time.

As a quick test to see how your bike responds, with the bike running in neutral, pull in the clutch, put it in gear, then push the sidestand down and see if that kills it. That is not a definitive test, but it provides some information.

My Montesa missed one beat the other day and that actually concerned me too.

 it's not my kickstand

Oh crap, I just remembered I'm running some low test fuel in there :|

Do you think I should maybe go riding and burn it all out of the tank ?
That might take a couple hours there's almost a whole litre in there :|

shot in the dark - were the throttle bodies ever sync'd? Seems to be a service that even some mechanics scoff at however it can cause issues at low RPM's / closed throttle position. Looks like Yamaha suggests resync every 4000 miles.

What are all the ways you can tell if one cylinder is working as well as the next cylinder ?
Temperature, compression testing, plug reading, did I miss any?

There is nothing more then one butterfly valve idle set screw per body, is there not?
They should all close at the same time (y) job done.

Colortune, but there aren't many people that own them. Multi-channel wideband 02 is probably as good as it gets but even fewer people are running that.

EDIT:
I haven't seen anyone do it, but we are getting close to having sensors and software that could separate out cylinders on a dyno. It already knows when cylinder 1 is firing, it just needs the firing order and a ridiculous polling speed on the output sensor. It probably needs a modification to the drum as calculating dV of the speed of a dyno drum during a single power stroke is probably not possible. If you switch to a load cell between the outer skin and the heavy core of the drum it gets much simpler.

@r3r3r3 never...I have the manual and have not seen that as part of the maintenance schedule...this is the first time it's been at a dealer for any type of service (and that was to put heated grips on so i had them check the air filter and spark plugs seeing as they had the gas tank off anyways)...

@Trials you must be really bored, because half of what you post makes no sense to the thread that you're posting on...either that or it's way above my head...remember, i'm not a mechanic...i'm a grade 2 teacher...i ride, can do oil changes, chain maintenance, check tire pressure oh, and do tire swaps and brakes on my car (with hubby's help), so all your cryptic messages mean nothing to me

Well, he has moved on from the past "sell your bike and buy a trials bike. If you had one cylinder, troubleshooting would be a lot simpler".

its under section 7-3 in the owners manual - line item #5: "fuel injection, adjust synchronization" (This is done by synchronizing the throttle bodies) .I question how often Yamaha requires it be done however your 4x overdue according to their suggested schedule.

Ignore Trials, I think all those years without a seat did something strange to that man.

My apologies, a little bored, need somebody to ride with other then my dog.
also the most patient teacher on earth.

Your bike has 4 cylinders, by looking for things like say 1 cold exhaust header out of 4, that would indicate a problem local to one cylinder. All the tests you can do (other then swapping out parts) are based on machines. Compression testing tells you air pressure produced at each piston, there are temperature sensing devices that let you see one cold cylinder in a bank of 4 very easy.

Always welcome to ask questions (y)
let us know if it runs out of fuel on high fuel demand only.

lol ya ignore me I could fix the thing.

@ifiddles I had an fz09.

After 1 oilchange I was getting on it and noticed the red oil pressure come on right after. I pulled over to wait and it went away, got on it again and it came back.

Long story short, turns out these bikes need the oil filled right to the top 'line' in the sight glass. Shot in the dark but since we share the cross plane architecture I figured I would mention it.

Take a gander at your oil level while cold and if its anywhere below that top line put in some more.

Good call, this was due at first service on my fz
