With the forecast now saying +9 for Wednesday, anyone want to guess when we will see the annual return of the first thread...

Took my bike out his morning to commute to work. Crashed it as I didn't realize that at 6 am the temp was still below zero and I hit a patch of black ice..

Or I entered a corner and bike hit sand/salt on road from the winter and I crashed..

Of course not wishing anyone actually crashes... But we see it every year, thankfully most of the time it is a low speed get off.



I am thinking likely Tuesday, (supposed to be +5 that day).

After all we have already seen the first loud pipes and the first lane splitting threads for 2015...lol Next week shoukd also see the first... "they didn't wave at me" thread too

To which I would respond:
If you haven't been riding thus far through the winter what would give you the idea that today is a good day to start?
My phone's Accuweather App is telling me its currently -11, -25 with the windchill. It's nippy today. I haven't stopped riding except during the week after the superbowl when we had all that snow and when I went to Cuba for a week while the deep freeze started. I rode the night of the superbowl though and it was very intense and tricky. There was a lot of snow.

You've gotta take it easy, glad your ok. Hows your bike? Not a great way to start the season at all, before the season even starts. I've had a few slippery black ice mornings but nothing I can't handle, gotta take it easy like I said- and fyi not many people wave at me. Maybe like 1 of every 500 vehicles. If that. I'm definitely not about to start a thread though.
I think I had to read your post like 4 or 5 times before it hit me that you were preemptively mocking a future occurrence as well as valid questions and topics that are currently being discussed. Which to me just doesn't make sense.

At first I thought you were actually in a crash.. lol.. dude who gives a crap when a thread is created.. you cant really care that much.. you joined in 2013.. its not like you are a seasoned pro.. Let the noobs do as they do, and they will grow in their own time. I have noticed people on this site like to pile on random strangers... its quite lame. I mean you guys don't even know these people, and you think its cool to make fun of them. What is the average age of the people on this site that ridicule other adults. 40, with children?? lol.. seems pretty lame to me.. IMO..

Nope. I don't actively seek out people to harass. I just stumbled upon this post, where I was genuinely worried the OP crashed before re-reading it. Then realized it was only there so others could make fun of less experienced posters, who don't basically live here and see every single post. Commentary over childish behavior can be seen as instigation by the perpetrators. I never would have expected someone such as yourself to take part in it, considering your job and how important it might be to be seen positively by the community.
 
Although not the intent of the thread these discussions between more experienced riders about timing and early-season hazards do give us rookies some good tips... just a thought from the fly on the wall!
 
I'm amused by the newbie/rookie questions every year. It's because it makes me remember the awesome fun it was to discover motorcycling. Of course with guys my age having to share the road with the odd T-Rex, Mastodon, or Triceratops we have other memories too.
i don't think it's natural to ridicule people for a question, it's just that the anonymity of the internet can lead to a pack mentality among the testosterone charged youth who otherwise wouldn't say jack to a persons face.

Of course! I myself have learned a great deal from many posters, including a few in this thread.. that is why I was so shocked.. That is a great reason to read and lurk and grow, but also do not be afraid to ask questions for a fear of some sort of childish rebuke from a crowd! Ask away my friends.. That is the entire reason for people to join a site like this. So they can ask questions they don't know how to answer, because the people around them are more experienced. Its just kind of rude/obnoxious to belittle someone with less experience and really does show a lot about character. No one is really THAT anonymous anymore.. we should be able to be civil with each other, even through a little bit of tedium.

Where do you see any expressed wish for any of that to happen? What is moronic is associating a prediction of the usual start-of-season follies as being a wish that any of it should happen.
 
Seen positively? If you knew anything you'd know that I'm NO role model. And I don't care what others think of me. I was simply using your own terms to point out that you did the same thing as he. Made fun the join date, his age and now essentially making fun of how much time is spent on the board.

I am going to predict that some day someone will scrap you body off the side walk - How you like that for a prediction? What is the point to write that kind of stuff on a motorcycle forum, we all know we are all at risk at any time, no need for some idiot to bring this up just to troll.

Pointing out facts (like join dates) isn't insulting anyone, nor is pointing out an age (unless you are really sensitive, which was just a guess btw). I have noticed people (didn't name the OP) pile on others needlessly. For "joy" it seems. You've posted that you like to "troll" people. This is more of the same. Think what you like, and extrapolate from my words anything you wish. What I said is written for all to see and glean what they like. :rolleyes:
 
I guess the younger ones can't decipher a post put forth in comic relief from those which are meant to be serious. Some actually read the post and understood the context.

Your right my join date is 2012. In the event you are unaware. MANY people actually visit this and other forums on the internet LONG before they join. I can make assumptions about you but I don't, because, I know nothing about yo,u nor do you about I. So try to get your exercise at the gym or other appropriate places rather than by jumping to conclusions for which you have no basis. BTW GTAM is not the only motorcycle forum on the internet and these type of threads begin showing up the first days and weeks people who don't ride all year begin their season again. So yes I have seen them for more years than I wish to admit.

Also feel free to point out where I said that these threads are started only by those with little or no experience. I have seen some of these very thread types started by people who have had decades of riding experience. So again your assuming I was belittling those with less experience. Not the case at all in fact I have NO idea who will be the first to start this type of thread this year. Just as there will at some point be a thread debating darksiding.. how do I know this because it happens EVERY year.
