Is There Any Bike Out There That Can Give You 400+ km's On Tank Of Gas?

I went from downtown Toronto to downtown Buffalo and back on a tank of gas on my VFR800 - I started and stopped at the same gas station and the low fuel light was on by the time I got back. So roughly 380km on a tank and I was going 140km/h more or less the entire time.

I have a 2006 DL650 V-Strom and a 2012 DL650 V-Strom. Keep in mind that I ride most of the year including tempratures well below freezing and mileage sucks in those conditions. My friends tell me that I am a very aggressive rider.

Here are the details on the 2006 mileage. the 2006 has a 22 liter tank:

total fuel used
10403.669
total cost of fuel
$10,998.76
avg fuel mileage
5.14
most fuel put in tank
21.302
total of trip odo
202389.30
current mileage
202435.00
Fuel Cost per KM
$0.0543
Avg price per liter
$1.0572
most projected on tank
553
most actual on tank:
446.3
max mileage
3.98
max mileage 3 tanks
4.15
number of fillups
644.0

Average projected tank range is 430 km.

Here are the details on the 2012 mileage. The 2012 has a 20 liter tank but gets better mileage:

most fuel put in tank
19.350
total of trip odo
53820.62
current mileage
53841.00
Fuel Cost per KM
$0.0589
Avg price per liter
$1.2347
most projected on tank
555
most actual on tank:
430.0
max mileage
3.60
max mileage 3 tanks
3.77
number of fillups
169.0

Average projected tank range so far is 424 km. There are a couple of fill-uups not in the spreadsheet yet and I am a ways over 54,000 km now. The range I have gotten from the tank directly relates to the temperature and speed. Ridden moderately in warm weather 400 km is easy to do.

Yeah over 202,000 km on the 2006. It went to the dealership at 1,000 and 24,000 km (for valve checks. Didn't need any adjusting) and never went back again. Lots of oil changes, etc. but virtually no issues and the minor things that popped up were fixed by me. I stopped riding it when I got the 2012 and it sat for over 12 months untouched and un-ridden. I moved recently and had to move it so I put the key in it and turned it on, waited for the fuel pump to stop and it started INSTANTLY. Like I parked it an hour before. These puppies love to go out and play!

I rode it to it's new home and it rode like the day I parked it.

I think they are amazing bikes!

I've always wondered if bikes last that long because the average used ones on Kijiji never go more than 24,000~ (and the valve check is never done).

Hope I can get my GSXR-750 that high, the mileage is going up fast so I was afraid I'd kill it quicker than I'd like to.

BTW the mileage on mine is not really any big deal. I know of a DL650 V-Strom with over 250,000 km and there is a DL1000 in the USA that has close to 300,000 MILES on it! If the V-Strom hadn't changed for 2012 I am sure I would be still riding my 2006 with 256,000 km on it by now. I don't know why sport bikes aren't seen with that kind of mileage... probably people just looking for different things in their bikes and wanting change.

Well thanks for the confidence boosting info. If I just bring it in for service every 24,000 and do all the basic stuff myself (oil changes, lube, checking stuff etc.) it should last a good long while? =D

...Unless I track with it and have an oopsies? lol

Most of the SS bikes are written off or the rider themselves are written off before they can get to those numbers..

Yup, there was an 03 R6 with over 106,000km on kijiji, predictably no one wanted anything to do with it. I know guys that sell a bike the moment it turns over 30k

This just goes to show how good Suzuki is and the type of engine they created for this bike. Same can't be said for other manufacturers.

I'm gonna keep mine till it dies!!!! And take many pictures when I get a chance lol

Maybe one of those new Honda NC700's? I think they're claiming 73 MPGs or something like that.

Yeah I just checked. Honda NC700 is claimed at 3.58 L/100 and has a 14.1L tank. So in theory it can hit 394 km on a tank..... IN THEORY.

My dl650 is the same. Checked the valves at 24k still in spec and do the regular maintenance and it keeps running. I ride similar to tom, all year round all weather.

My 03 R6 had over 78k when I traded it in for the wee. No issues with it either. No one would buy it with that milage lol

Average 5.0L/100kms.

I regularly get over 400kms to a tank. Fuel light goes on around 380-400kms. I have gone 50kms past the fuel light.
