Doug Ford - Build in greenbelt

A U of T proff said that many that are not media savy may be fooled into thinking its real news.

Sure like Orson Wells attack from Mars, and Norrad tracking Santa . If the bar was set any lower, it would be a trip hazard.

those that live in the MAGA echo chamber
will not have seen that a few days ago CNN's lead story
was crediting Trump with initializing peace on the Korean peninsula

whether that peace comes to fruition and lasts is another matter
but it's likely that Trump's combination of bombastic verbal war mongering
while simultaneously employing diplomatic efforts
was the right strategy to deal with a nut-job that has known nothing but nut-jobbery

Not really, look at trump, anything he says get spins into negativity. If he wants his followers to hear his message would he release it on msm?

Trump made North & South Korea shake hands something that hasn't happened in decades. Even the South Korea PM said Trump deserved a Peace prize, but the msm would spin that in saying that the North is up to no good & it's a trick by trump.

Not too long ago, the msm said that Trump will cause a nuclear war. But he's meeting with the dictator & building diplomatic ties.
If Dellen Millard donated to the Boy Scouts do you think he'd be praised for it? If Saddam roasted an awesome rack of lamb should he get an award?

Inevitably bad people will do a good thing or two in their lives but it will be ignored, and rightfully so. If Trump wants praise he should stop being such an awful person to his core. Then, maybe, if he does something good he'll get credit for it.

Possibly... It seems like China calls the shots in NK and there may have been more than a gentle prod from Beijing to make this happen... Maybe Beijing helps out with NK then maybe DC cools off with some of this tariff nonsense... they're playing geopolitical chess.

There is a theory that every few years the kims do this.

When they start running out of money and aid, they ramp up the hysteria, and then start playing nice to rake in the loot

The praise for Trump comes mostly from himself and South Korea I thought.
S.K. Has much to gain from being in good and tight with the U.S., as do we.

I think the NK thing was simple. Grab NK by the financial nuts and squeeze. Talk to the allies that haven't taken the squeezing seriously, secure their buy in, hold their feet to the fire and keep squeezing.

Sooner or later the squeeze hurts. I'm sure NK realized Trump had them in a death grip which probably made them seriously evaluate their future. Sooner or later they would have faced an internal revolt, not everyone is willing to starve to death.

Give Trump credit where credit is due. No other world leader has been able to get this far.

Russia and China have or will play a role in whatever happens... Nothing would happen without their involvement or approval.

Yes Russia and China could muck things up, I doubt either see much value in spending political capital to mess with Trump over NK - particularly when it seems it's heading in the right direction.

Up till now, China and Russia knew American President's bark was worse than their bite -- they didn't take them too seriously when it came to dealing with the Axis of Evil countries. Trump has their attention, they don't seem to want to see if there is bite behind his bark.

Two stories out of Alberta and one from Ontario, and some NK at the end:

https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2018/...t-alliance_a_23428316/?utm_hp_ref=ca-homepage

The Conservatives in Alberta are going to pass policy (if elected) that schools have to out gay children to their parents (based on support club membership).... Must make them feel like big ...... outing kids.

https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2018/...-bill-vote_a_23427103/?utm_hp_ref=ca-homepage

Next, the cowards, sorry Conservatives refused to vote (even show up basically) on legislation that prevents protesters from harassing women at abortion clinics (setting min distances for protests). Why are they cowards, well if they voted it would have exposed their hidden agenda regarding what a women LEGALLY does with her body. Dougie has talked about removing the protections here if elected.

Why does it matter what happens in Alberta, because they are the "grass roots" these days (Reformers/Wildrose)....

Here in Ontario:

https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2018/05/05/doug-ford-tanya-granic-allen_a_23427939/

She was dumped as a candidate NOT for having these backward views but for getting caught expressing them (video is from years ago). More hidden agenda here... BTW having these bigoted views actually violates the Ontario PC Party's constitution for membership--so she shouldn't have even been a member by their own rules! During the leadership we all knew she had these exact views, getting caught is the issue here and Doug basically says that.

The problem he will have going forward on this one, many of the current sitting PC MPPs and new candidates have said way worse and have these same views, he himself has as well....So what happens when those videos come out...??? Candidate firing of the week?

As for NK:
Their main test facility has collapsed (physically), and their entire program is in shambles. It will take years, maybe a decade to get it back to where it was. I think this may be a big reason they are at the table.... Regardless if there is a positive outcome great, but I think he is playing Trump to make him look like a fool.

I don't care what a woman does to her body, but it also involves an unborn child. That's why it's their business.

That is one opinion, the law (and science based on the timing) currently has a different one. BTW, the bible at one point also has a different opinion it says we don't get a soul until up to a month after birth (likely due to the high infant mortality when that part was written). In another place at first breath (birth).

But in the end, instead of voting as a block against the legislation (preventing harassment of people doing something entirely legal)--it still would have passed BTW--and exposing their agenda they are trying to hide their agenda from progressive voters. This makes them cowards IMO, if that is what you believe in stand up for your beliefs and be counted (like you are doing), don't try to hide them via childish behaviour.

That all circles around to the Ontario PCs and Tanya Granic Allen. Her having these views was never a problem, it was really well known (even though they are technically against the party's own constitution). BUT expressing them was a problem because it brings the hidden agendas into the light. Ford kicked her out for this reason.

I am sure there is also some circular argument here about Ontario PCs and freedom of speech...

Let us not forget how this thread started, Ford got caught expressing his views (development of green space as a hidden agenda) and then had to back track... Same ethics as the Liberals in the end...

Yawwwwwwn.

Nothing better to do than repost tabloid links about the cowpie province's politics?

On the Allen front, that's just good management. Your post seems to be a feeble attempt to link Ontario PC to the WildRoses of Alberta -- there is no such linkage, thay are not even the same party.

"and science based on the timing". I'd like to hear about this . . .

When I say timing I mean term length or gestation period.

Generally the brain does not start to develop consciousness until around 28 weeks. While the law is not hard in fast in Canada (technically there is no specific law in this exact context AFAIK) elective termination is 20 weeks or less based on medical practices (there could be non-elective medical reasons even beyond this point). Other countries have different rules (some more some less) but 20 weeks is common. IMO 20 weeks is cutting it too close BTW (see below), but even at this point the fetal brain (in general) has not developed to the point of consciousness. The baby cannot survive if born at this point (20 weeks).

Personally based on my review of the science, 20 weeks is cutting it too close for my liking. There have been a couple babies I know of born at 21.x weeks that have survived--Amillia Taylor (UK), James Gill (Canada)--extremely rare almost statistical zero percentage, but it has happened. I would like more margin just to be sure, maybe ~12 to 16 weeks tops.

Prior to consciousness it is a bundle of developing cells. Some religious people will argue against this, but the bible as noted is all over the place on this one and can actually be used as to reinforce the pro and anti positions. As for life at fertilization/conception, only about 50% or the fertilized eggs ever even become a fetus due to the natural process.

This is a really good example of how socialist governments work - they get sidetracked and stop working on the important stuff in order to play with small agenda issues. Alberta has a lot of pressing women's issues at the moment -- this isn't one of them.

The buffer zones are already covered by a variety of legislation at both the provincial and federal level, the issue is there is no enforcement -- making redundant laws won't fix that. McNotley, like her friend Wynne spend way too much time on divisive social issues and far too little time on the big stuff --- the economy and private sector job creation. Just like Alberta doesn't need more regulations on top of existing regulations, Ontario needs to attract better jobs -- not raise the wages because all Wynne has managed to do is create gov't and McJobs.

And for your last point, Allen lost her job after being bullied by Wynne. I'm sure Ford knew of her past and was likely willing to have her current self on the team. Until Wynne invited him to a mud wrestle with her Allen bullying campaign. I think he chose the right option under the current circumstances, by dismissing Allen, Wynne is in standing in the mud pit all by herself -- leaving Ford focused on his agenda instead of Wynne's.

I haven't really read up on the abortion issue but here's my preliminary thoughts. If a fetus has feelings, I think it is wrong to abort. For me, this doesn't apply to rape.

Maybe in the bizarre fantasy world that a particular branch of conservatives seem to live in. The economy is doing fine by pretty much any measure including unemployment and GDP; statscan and the province's books are all you need on the matter and the numbers are undeniable. The rest is anecdotal ********* and opposition bitching (what else do they have to do?). Repeating it until you believe it doesn't make it real.

Ignoring social issues doesn't mean they're not there; it just means they're being ignored. It's easy to talk about what should be ignored when it's not affecting you. All the dudes on this forum sure get up in a huff about insurance prices for men tho... Ain't that something?

The problem is there is only so far you can go by offsetting private sector job losses with public sector hires. The Wynne plan -- add a regulation, hire 2 people to manage it -- only goes so far. That's and the sugar high the province gets off infrastructure spend does a head fake on GDP. Sure GDP is there and strong, but at some point if you eliminate the private sector, there is nothing left to pay the govt's bills and things come to a screeching halt. See Ireland. See Portugal. See Italy. See Spain. See Greece. Is that the path we want?
