2013 Ninja 650 Crashed hard. $1200 Looks like even the headers are ripped open in the one pick.

I could see someone buying this primarily for the engine. 2013 and 4000kms. buying it for $1000, and selling a few parts - (maybe) back wheel, rotors electrical, etc - and saving the sprockets and chain for your own future use, ditto tires. You might end up with a near new engine for $7-800 and some consumables to boot.

man that bike hit hard....

Background of ads is something I always look for. Guy selling a "mint" bike which was "well maintained"....but he's got nothing but ***** stored away in the backyard. IMHO.....if he can't take the time to cut grass and maintain something simple as a backyard how is he going to maintain something as complicated as a bike....just my opinion.....and not always accurate.

I'd rather spend time working on my bike than cutting the grass.

The mid-summer Suzuki promo has kicked in, so new 2017's are now $7999 and come with a 5 year warranty., making this guy's price even more absurd.

I couldn't resist emailing him and asking him if the price was an error, politely stating that a brand new one can be had for $8000 right now.

Here's the response.

Yes but I have an old motorcycle loan that got carried over to this bike, So if I want to clear the Loan off I have to sell at that price, Unless there is a other way to do it.

Not sure exactly WTF he's thinking. Unfortunate as I was actually looking at a Boulevard for my wifes next bike since they ride low - I might have actually legitimately been interested in that if he wasn't out to left field for pricing.

I told him it's realistically worth $3500-$4500 as it sits (time of year, with the damage, and the mileage) and now he wants me to call him. Yeah, I'm not getting into a discussion with someone about how I need to pay off their loan for them.

The plot thickens. It sounds like there's an $11,000 lien on the bike and he genuinely wants someone to pay him enough to clear that.

Geezus...some people have NO financial sensibility. I'd be sick to my stomach if I was ever that upside down on a vehicle.

Anyhow, he seems to be a nice enough guy based on the conversation so far, but I just kinda feel bad for him as I don't think he has any idea how upside down he is right now or how many thousands of dollars he's going to have to eat to get out of this.

Not always ...my son financed his 2013 YZ8 and has paid it off...he paid $6990. It's worth pretty much that now 3 years on. All depends on the initial deal.

The problem is when people buy a brand new shiny toy (that loses a good chunk of it's value the second it leaves the lot), and then 6 or 12 months later their eye falls upon another new shiny toy, so they just roll things over and start over again, with yet another depreciation hit the second the new shiny toy leaves the lot.

It's easy to sign on the dotted line to get those shiny new toys, but increasingly people seem to have little or no understanding about the financial implications...and you end up like this guy, owing $11,000 on a bike worth maybe $4000.

I was refuting this
That's what happens when you finance toys....or anything else. You pay more than they are worth.

Financing is not the problem as this claims....poor value judgement is.

I think its a whole other thread, but financing toys is sometimes a bit of a risk, and poor value judgement happens to a LOT of people, even those that should know better.
You see it all the time with 'in house finance' , and 'we can get everybody approved' .

But would it have been cheaper paid out in cash at the beginning? There's still financing costs, no? Thought the last new car I bought, had a $1k difference between cash and finance over 4 years. It's possible the $$ put in an investment would have made more then the $1k over the 4 years...or not.
