Ontario should make winter tires mandatory.

:p

You drive some bad donkey Mad Maxmobile with 8 tires? kick donkey!

I hate the swear filter on this forum. Can't even use the other word for donkey.

I find the word "that" horribly offensive. I demand it be added to the swear filter immediately. Before the children see it!

I don't know how much winter tires would have helped him there, more like better tread. What if they were balding winters?

I really do dislike being told what to do by the government. Hate it in fact.

But you can't expect everyone to have the same mind set.

Should everyone have winter tires? Well I'm sure there is the vehicle owner that has all seasons and rarely if ever drives in snow or ice conditions. They may even drive south for the winter. Why put snow tires on?

At the same time, I see pick ups and SUVs with all seasons stuck at the side of the road every snow storm we get.

Big heavy vehicles with AWD and they just drive like the road conditions in July.

I was cursing the winter gods when I installed the winter tires in November. Chewing up valuable tire wear in mild conditions.

But I'm glad I have them on.

Once you run winter tires, you almost never want to run without.

I'm starting to lean toward mandatory use but, it won't prevent the typical mayhem we experience every year.

i guess the mandatory winter tires rebate is one step in the right direction as it might act as an incentive to be safer
as for un1337 well some insurers did have it, now they all need to have it as of jan 2016. my post is somewhat a reminder to call in and check

We'll likely just end up with people running bald winter tires all year instead of bald all seasons.

And I agree that there are lots of SUVs with no snow tires out there. I know at least two people that think they don't need them because they have AWD or 4x4. My AWD vehicles have all had them.

i already see people with winters year round... theyre easily noticeable in lots with their zig-zaggy tread patterns.

but yeah, people think suv = safe. i think that see it as Safety Unaccidentable Vehicule.
And as i'd posted it somewhere else, we have a reactive kind of view regarding accidents in North america, land of the bigger car the better. It should be a preventive view (like the one us motorcyclists have) in order to not have accidents in the first place and avoid them completely.

But it goes along with all our "pills and surgeries to fix health problems" when the right thing in a lot of cases would be better eating and more activity. It's a whole mindset that comes with that issue

My wife needed tires for her Venza. We got her some Nokian WR-SUVs. Great tires in the snow and good for year round use.

Just ordered a set today with alloy rims (hate black steel rims) and getting them installed mid-week. Went with Michelin X-Ice Xi3. Also recommend Dunlop WintersSport 3D or 4D...great tires.

X-ice are a great tire....until about 50% worn......After that, they get greasy......mind you this was previous gen to the Xi3......could be better now.....

Have had big M/T tires on my truck for 8 years now. Not the greatest in the snow, but not a problem when using 4x4. It's actually fun passing people at normal speeds sideways, when they can barley get going for a light or stop sign. I'm not a great driver and I really appreciate 4x4 so I can't see myself not having a 4x4 vexhicle.

My lease is up and I ordered a new truck, should be here any day now. Spent a little more on this one and went with a Toyota Tundra Trd pro, it's got upgraded off-road suspension and lifted slightly from the factory. And from the specs says Michelin A/T tires. Online they get a 4 out of 5 for snow. Should be fun!

I was gonna post a new thread, then just, whatever

When it snowed last week, there were some locals who clearly were rolling around on piss poor all-seasons b/c I got stuck behind them going up the escarpment. Maybe the whole province doesn't need winter tires, but if you freaking live here, and you can't make it up the hill in your FWD sedan or your SUV thing (meanwhile the tires on my car are old enough that I have no memory of their purchase and they work just fine), then maybe take the hint?!

But i guess there's something i failed to mention in the quebec vs ontario thing.... in quebec, you CANNOT ride your motorcycle during winter. From the time that winter tires are mandatory, the motorcycle cannot be ridden...your plate is "invalid". Now THAT is a big downside, unless the insurance companies provide discounts for that matter...
But insurance companies would retort that they already proratedly charge us if we cancel coverage in the cold months... so in the end.. maybe just having insurers provide discounts makes sense...
I liked being able to ride in to work on my motorcycle on xmas eve! And with global warming happening, i have a feeling like it won't only happen on El Nino years in the future hehe
