Practical Car vs Fun Car as a second car! - Sub 20k or less!

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I really appreciate it! The V70R is a blast to drive (my fav when I worked at Volvo), once again I have the notion they're very expensive to maintain (I'll PM you silverbullet). As for the S2000/MIATA I've had a chance to drive them both and even though they're a blast they're just way too small for me. The Impreza WRX is def in the list but I didn't know it needs 94 to drive properly, which may prevent me from buying it simply on a cost basis. But it's only a few $/month anyway. That's one of the cars I've never driven, only the stock 2.5.

My parents current car is a newer E-Class, my mom wants her own now and I tried my hardest to convince her to get this...

After some test drives she's set on this...

These are definitely out of my price range! LoL My brother in law has a nice C300 he wants to sell me but it's out of my range :(

Same here, I'm still stuck with my 13 year old V6 Accord. That's why my goal was to get her to buy what I wanted so I could occasionally drive it as well. Unfortunately it didn't work...The only good thing is the GLK has about 100 hp on the CLA and I could add a hitch and trailer things with it.

You poor soul....a GLK to drive instead of a CLA...zero sympathy from here!

You could tune the WRX/STI for 91 if you really want to use that grade of gas.

No, I wouldn't cruise in it, in fact I don't cruise much in cars at all...I'd rather be on my bike. My Honda is the winter beater for school and my dog car, but I take the parents cars out on occasion for work errands and drive it when we go out or to family events. I drive my dad's car when we go to our shop, he'd rather just sit back and relax...

That is why I'd rather have the car over a SUV it just puts a smile on my face and actually makes driving enjoyable. But its my mom's...and she just prefers the drive of the SUV so I've got no say...It's the ugly duckling.

Yeah instead of a female chiropractor he gets to look like a housewife!!

Dude, you already know I ride a 250...you really think you're gonna put me down with that ****

Look on the trader, you can find 2009/2010 C300 and 2008/2009 C250 for around 19k - 21k. My father in law just picked up a C300. What a beautiful ride.

My wife wanted me to buy a practical car, so we got a 2012 VW Jetta GLI, I added the K04 kit from APR and its a fun car now, still get 6l/100km highway, and keep me entertained through the winter while my bike is parked.

Don't be afraid of ze germans...they sold out to the mexicans like everybody else.

How about a Honda Fit? It is definitely practical as it literally FITS everything. I have moved a fridge with mine before. I have installed coilovers and a rear sway bar. It is a lot of fun to toss around in the corners. Yes it is extremely under powered but I do enjoy rev-ing the **** out of it. Takes 87 gas and its been trouble free for the 5 years of ownership. Only had to change the regular stuff like oil, brake pads, tires, etc.

+1 on the civic Si. Its fun, practical and reliable.

I know a girl with an 07 that has over 300k on a stick shift. She's says maintenance wise she's just done the regular stuff as well...

Thanks guys I'll go drive that Civic SI. I had an SI-G as my first car and that was a blast, that got replaced by the Genesis Coupe, and now in the Elantra Touring...need more fun on 4 wheels again in my life again! LoL And they're a dime a dozen so I'm sure there's good deals to be had.

Another one for a civic SI..... Or look into CSX type-s. Same engine and trans as the Si but has better luxuries like bluetooth, leather and heated seats, nav, push start. IMO looks a bit better too.

I enjoyed our civic. 6 speed only. Was quick enough for a bit of amusement. Took it on a few long drives and if you cruised the gas mileage was fantastic. The factory wheels weren't horrible to look at and the trunk has a fair amount of space. I was able to easily get my mtb and all my gear and a cooler in it with ease. You'll most likely enjoy it.
