Peaky Blinders...

not bad... gonna be my next potato chips for the mind

Finished up Star Trek Discovery - entertaining, but something is off. Not very Trek like it seems.. I thought we were suppose to learn where her name came from... or did I miss something. Ending of the series was well, not sure how to take it. Definitely a hook for next season.

The big "shocker" was "the ship" showing up at the end. Thought they would wait a couple of seasons first. Will see how they answer a few big questions next season.

CBS and Paramount don't seem to understand their own intellectual property. They can't seem to do fan service right. TOS was good TNG started off meh but became good. DS9 started meh but improved, then got really good when they got TNG's writers. Voyager was the dogs breakfast. Enterprise was a wasted opportunity. Discovery isn't Star Trek; just a generic SciFi show with a label slapped on it.

I am not sure if they need to do fan service, this kinda thing to me, is just call backs to already established items and not original. But they could do something which stands on it's own.

Totally agree you could title this series and the last couple of movies anything, as they appear to be pretty generic action/space movies.

I think they failed miserably with the Harry Mudd episode. That's when I bailed on Discovery.

And yet they constantly attempt fan service. If you do the show right you don't need it, because it FEELS right.

Dirty Money on Netflix.Great documentarys.Everything from Payday Loan scandal to stolen maple syrup in Quebec.

British dramas to look forward to:

New season of Marcella (on now...troubled female detective)
New season of Luther (with Idris Elba, troubled male detective) coming in 2018. If you've never seen Luther it's excellent.

Homeland right now is pretty good! Really enjoying it but no spoilers please...I'm catching up, just an episode or two behind.

Open Range is a movie coming on AMC today shortly, twice back to back; an excellent cowboy movie with Robert Duvall and Kevin Costner that most people haven't seen. The standoff scene is very memorable. And watching it on a Blu-ray/DVD at reference volume with a great HT system (big sub) is super dynamic. Well known scene to HT audio fans.

Cheers!

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but I watched the first four episodes of HAPPY! last night....
You know how some shows look great on paper and then when they are made you are all, like, wtf is this??
Well, imho, this is the opposite. They probably put this together, said "eff it we'll try and see what happens", and then this strangely absurd show just works. (keep in mind that I am a typical sitcom type of guy...never into any scifi, or anything...never got into Dexter and the like...)
Anyway, really enjoying it. Love seeing this actor (I suck at names...L&O SVU -- Stabler) he nails this role. And it seems very heavy on his ability to play the part. As in, everyone else is just a supporting cast and it is really focused on him.

And for stupid comedy -- LA to Vegas and AP Bio

This season of Black Mirror was good. Not as good as previous seasons, but the Star Trek episode was fantastic!

Also watched Philip K Dick's Electric Dreams. Very hit and miss. My favorite episode was "Autofac". Rest was meh. Also watching Channel Zero. Very low budget, but has a good creepy vibe. It's based on the Creepypasta user-submitted stories on the website.

Thanks to those who suggested Altered Carbon. Great world-building, amazing detail, but OMG the acting from the leads was horrible!

Netflix has a ton of great content. Watched a German series called, Dark (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5753856/), set in the 1980s (part of it) about a group of kids that discover something scary about the town they live in. Sounds like Stranger Things, but it's completely different!

Off to binge Jessica Jones now!

I really enjoyed Dark.....even the terrible dubbing.

I just finished Dirty Money...makes my skin crawl that people are doing this ****, and it's just about greed. Maybe not in the Maple Syrup thing, which was it's own amusing thing, but the rest..

White collar crime really needs to become accountable. That is totally disgusting..

Most of the way through binge-watching "Ghost War" on Netflix. Better than the name would imply, with names like Kim Coates , Vincent D'Onofrio, Meat Loaf, Luvia Petersen, Kristin Lehman, and Sharon Taylor.
