Most capable motorcycles in the (reasonable insurance rates) category?

Great bikes, but likely quite a bit above budget of a "smoking deal F4i".

You can get a nice 1st gen FZ1 for 2-2.5K and a 2nd Gen for 4-5K.

and pay the value of the bike in insurance every year :p

I somehow doubt the FZ1 or FZ-09 will be substantially cheaper than the 600F4i, but I guess there are too many factors to take into consideration.

If OP can't afford insurance on a 600F4I.... I would say the SV650 or something. I hear they can be pretty quick.

I'm sure the CB500X, SV650, FZ6, 650R, etc are plenty capable.

If the rider is small the CBR500 should be in the same class as the CBX but small frame. 471 CC so cheap on insurance.

With ABS new at $6500 not a bad machine and will be reliable. Low seat height and only 425 lb wet weight. Very decent for a new rider.

This is a LAMs bike so never going to set the tires on fire but it's light and I had no trouble keeping up on the demo ride on the CB500x which also shows very well against the Vstrom 650 which surprised me

The light CBR should be even more fun. But not for the taller rider...the frame is small compared to the full frame CBX.

Nah, it would take me over 4 years in insurance premiums to pay for the value for my Gen1. I'll be selling it cheap in the spring to get a Gen 2, unless I get distracted by a Tuono - which is likely.

I was looking at the 500r but I don't like the engine they put in it. It's basically a Rubicon ATV motor.

The 6 is perfect for me. Just not for insurance lol. I've been riding dirtbikes all my life and have no issues controlling something with 2 wheels. My 450 would smoke a Ninja 300 up to top gear. In fact put supermoto tires on it and it would probably leave one behind on the twisties too. I'm not a new "rider" I'm a new licence holder :p

Just find a "rock the red and/or ride with us" event and go ride it. Haven't seen the vfr at those events... and i dont think you'd want to look at the nc7x...

Same size engine that's not mounted the same on something thats almost half (with a stretch) the weight of the ATV does not make it similar. Ratios and tuning would be different too
Hope you find something decent :D keep us posted

Then get an old beater until insurance comes down. Maybe a Bandit or something
Talk to Paul about small bikes going fast in the twists. It's not much about HP. 45 hp on 425 lb wet =l lots of fun.
Your money.

I completely agree its not all about horsepower. But it is about size and comfort for me. I bought the 600 because the Ninja felt small to me physically. It's just a pain to get insurance as a new rider even tho I'm not going to ride any different.

CB500x owner here.

Lots of fun to be had with one. I know that after 2 seasons ill want to change it up but
a) light
b) more comfortable than supersport
c) great commuter as it has enough torque off the line
d) great commuter too as it has awesome gas mileage (350km per tank of about 15-17L)
e) honda reliability
f) hello insurance

furthermore on F) I quoted the insurance for the fz07 and got a price 3fold of the current price im paying with same insurer, same record. and that includes my car and house insurance that i have with them... i just got my full M, this was my first year insured for bike, no tickets, and have had the m2 for a lil over 3 years. This means i'll definitely wait it out till 2017 to upgrade, still haven't mastered this one fully yet anyways.

My buddy with his r6 said that it did inspire a lot more confidence in terms of throwing it around corners ...of course mine is the 500x so its super upright and handlebars are above the tank...but still... it's close-ish handling-wise when you read the reviews comparing the 3 models.

When i look on forums, a lot of people are downgrading to that one from big adventure bikes just because its a more day-to-day bike.

So the fz6r was something id suggested to my buddy who wants to get in the sport...still expensive on insurace. if you can find an older hornet it might be something that could work for ya?

Good luck!

Agreed, great bike around town but not bad for some longer day rides. My kid took my 500 down to PA with me while I was on my concours for a couple of days in the twisties. No problems at all. Saving a bundle on insurance compared to the Suzuki M50 which we used to have in the stable.

I would go ER6N or Versys. Nice torque which the F4i has none of in my opinion. Keep in mind the SS is good but expensive. I think you may have mentioned the best option for you with the supermoto concept. Tons of fun and cheap to insure.

Can't make a KX450F street legal tho. An I would get sick of the maintenance schedule for road duty. These bikes need constant attention.

Oh my gawd am I ever the guy to talk to! I have some insider info that you wont believe..... send me a PM message. The powers that be on this forum don't like me talking about this stuff it seems.
Hint.... the bike Im talking about will DESTROY an FZ1 or a BKing... and will not destroy your wallet on insurance.

I don't need your insurance services, but thank you.... didn't need the private message advertisement either.

There is a section for insurance "specialists".

I'm curious what bike this is.

A while back, I tried posting to the insurance specialist thread and because the forum is sponsored (by that I mean the brokerages that pay to have their banners at the top), they said I had to pay as well. Im not on this forum much, but I suppose I could go that route. Im a rider first, and just happen to have some knowledge and advise that they dont have. Not trying to spam.

btw.... its not just one bike, its a few really high powered bikes that sneak through the door.

So you're not going to tell us because they wanted you to pay?
