Marco Muzzo in the News Oh

^ the indifference of fate and it's fickle nature. Had not heard of that story, thanks.

Did the family contributed to the tragedy, why are the family on the hook for a settlement? Or is this against Muzzo's personal wealth?

...but yeah, ask a lot and settle somewhere in between. Though even if the parents had to rely on their kids in old age, no one can say what the kids' earning potential would have been and how much they would have cared for their parents in their old age. But it's not about that...it's about how much they can get, no?

Interestingly, what if offending drunk was a minimum wage, minimally covered, up to his ears in debt security specialist; would they still be after 25m? Or does the value of you loved one's float with the offenders income? I though in these PC times of equity, we are supposed to be all about equality of outcome. Hit by an average pleb, what's the maximum realistic settlement?

Nothing. So hope to get done in by the filthy rich. Though, speeding tickets in Europe somewhere is on a sliding scale depending on the offender's income. So maybe some merit to that.

I remember The Monkey's Paw from a long time ago, but forgot it. A lot of lottery winners end up worse off then before they won, but a lot don't. But instant $$ will bring em out of the woodwork.

The family may not have thought about it at all, the ambulance chasing dillhole lawyers would have been handing out cards at the funerals. The 25mil number would have been on advice of consul since they get 30-40-50%.
Ask for the stars and settle for a slice of the moon. It will be a big slice.

The family business is probably what is listed in the suit.

I don't get that either. How do you sue the family of an adult for something?
Is Marco himself worth enough to sue him personally or are they actually suing his family?

Maybe the car was registered to the family business?

I got a Bingo! Think I'll knock off early today and take a well deserved rest:)

There was mention of the Jeep being a company car. I would assume MM's personal ride would be something one wouldn't leave at the airport so grab a company hack.

The suit is for less than 1% of the Muzzo estimated worth. Using that ratio the typical GTA homeowner would be looking at $10 -20K, not the end of the world and likely a fight first fought by insurance. This isn't the USA.

I wonder if Marco's eligibility for parole / release could be re-negotiated if the Muzzo's paid the opening shot?

Re: The Monkey's Paw. It's a short story where an older couple wishes on a lucky charm, a mummified monkey's paw, for a bunch of money. Then their phone rings and it's their son's workplace advising them that their son was just killed in an industrial accident but not to worry as he had a large life insurance policy. Then it goes really creepy.

Re Euro geared to income traffic fines, there is a bad side. Cops let cheap cars go by waiting for MBs etc because the higher income fish have a better payout.

The Monkeys Paw; the paw , which came from an old fakar in India, grants three wishes, but all come at a price, wish 1 was pay off the mortgage, which lead to the son being killed at work, the company denied responsibility but made a good will payment, the 2nd was the wife overcome with grief wishes for the son to return, the father who had indentified the body that was mutilated and been buried for a week, realized when the knock came to the door , the thing outside the door was not the son they knew. After wish 3 , the knocking stopped.

Published around 1900? when England had a firm hold on India and the supernatural spirit stuff was a big deal. Loved that story.

If I got $25 M for my wiped out family what would I spend it on?

It would be like solitary confinement at a five star resort, always wondering if the newcomers in my life cared about me or just my money.

A buddy who never was lucky with chicks just inherited close to a million. Everyone suddenly has a divorced sister, cousin, friend, all with kids, that want to meet him.

Shocking... lol

Stop wondering today. Nobody cares about you if you have nothing to offer, ever. Money is just one thing in a long list of things you can bring to the table. Money's a bigger ticket item like prestige, fame, social status and connections but it's tangible. The lower tier things like companionship, good conversation, sex, dinner and dancing, nice car and vacations are always in demand. Bring all that, bring some of that but bring something. Nobody cares about YOU.

Temu Selane got a $67K speeding ticket while home in Finland. The CEO of Nokia got one that was well into six figures.

When push comes to shove, who does. Easy to sit here removed from their reality and state what the ideal human being would do, but no one should kid themselves; we'd all do the same.

Not directed at you per say mxs

I hear you, but it's really tough to comment, just because he has done something 99.9% of people will simply not do in their lifetime (we are talking some serious wrong **** here).

It sounds to me like that these type of rich people with entitlement would do the same if they rear ended someone at traffic lights. To replace and paint a bumper is 1500 bucks, they will tell you take 500$ and get lost (even though they could easily take the high road because they can easily afford it). I am not so sure I'd deny someone a fair amount if I am in the wrong. Not the way I roll in my life ... but anyway, this is a different league and he will do anything to not have his life ruined whether physically or financially.

My shop being in a well to do area of town, I have many well to do customers, and I can say with certainty the majority will fork over what's fair... that said, you look at the 200k Merc they're driving and act as though your ride is worth double what it's actually worth, they won't hesitate to tell you where to go. So the question is what's the precedent? Is 25m reaching for the stars. My guess, probably; and one would bet that's the legal advice the family received. That some expect the family to just say sure why not cuz they can is a bit rich; pun intended.

Agreed ... but as I said before, there are some empiric formulas which should serve as a good base to avoid the sky-high and way-too-low figures. They are used all the time for variety of situations.
