I have several helmets, gloves, and a jacket for passengers. Before I had that I'd give them my gear. If I'm operating the vehicle and therefor in charge of their life/safety, their protection is more important than my own.
You can get gear pretty cheap on sale. For gloves I just lend then my child weather gloves. I try to get them to wear protective pants, too, but most will refuse.

Out of curiosity and at the risk of starting a flame war:

I'm a ATGATT type of rider. For those of you who are constantly 2upping the same girl, did you get her gear?

Always. It's more important to protect my passenger than myself. I won't risk somebody else when there is an option.
