It's called a 'firebox' they are like $80CAD and worth every penny. Folds up. Great for moto camping.

I'm just starting to toy with the idea of moto camping/adv riding. Over the winter I've been reading and watching videos, and I've kept a packing list going which I edit here and there when something pops in my mind or I learn something new
I've used a hammock to camp for the last few years, so thats the route I'm gonna try here

I'd add bear spray to your kit since you don't have a car to seek refuge in.
ESEE knives are very nice but also expensive. If anyone is looking, check out Ontario Knives or the Ka-Bar Becker which are similar.

Came in a cheap nylon sheath so I wrapped my in leather.

I love your knife, much more reliable than a KA-BAR. I broke the hilt of two of those back in the day, but it would take a nice edge, much better than any of the 440C you find coming from Asia.

Algonquin campground regs say "no more than 3 pieces of shelter equipment per campground" does this include tarps and awnings too? Anyone know? I'm up for a few Algonquin trips this summer and don't mind sharing my campsite with like minded souls. I usually do things reasonably last minute (maybe a week planning or a few days before) and often during the week when it's quieter and easier to get a walk in site. Regs say max 6 people per site too. I might post up details if I head off and then first (ones?) to PM me can meet up at the campground and share costs. I have a tent and (largeish) tarp. Might also do this for a few other campgrounds too if they are about 3-6 h from me (Kingston) and near some interesting places, Adirondacks/Vermont are likely.

Nice setup. Has anyone used Dryspec modular bags. I like the saddlebag set that hangs off the top bag so you don’t need racks. It costs like $400 for a 3-piece set tho.

Vuz Moto has soft dry bags. I picked up a set around Christmas when they had a $50 off code...but haven’t used them yet.

what I take depends on where and how long I am going for. A month long trip will see me bring my smallest, lightest kit and gear. Closer to home and I usually pack a little bigger. I do this because I can and I have spent so much on gear over the years I try to rotate through things.
In reality, I could obviously get by with the same favourite items whether I am gone a week or several weeks. I usually end up reaching for the same things over and over.
My favs are my hubba tents and my montbell bag and my exped mat. The jet boil is overkill for me and the x kettle bottom is to wide and flat for good cooking but it’s darn cute! I bring the chair one, not the Kermit, to big and heavy.
My last trip up to Alaska I used lightweight packing cubes and they were brilliant, I could unpack and get things without looking, everything went into the pannier the same way everyday. Mesh fronts,easy to view. I use a lot of solid rubber bands and eleastic stretchy bands from the dollar store to keep everything tight, tidy and compressed.
Over the many many years of moto camping, my gear has progressed from Canadian tire/Walmart gear to high end brand stuff. Does it change the quality of my camping? I guess.....I just really like camp gear and I’m all “ohhh,shiny” when new stuff comes out. For sure the high end stuff packs much much smaller and weighs much less that it’s lower price counterparts.
Those two are very important to me. I travel with as little as possible and as light as possible if I am away for several weeks. I love my exped mat. Worth every penny.
I always bring a cooler and buy food at the grocery store, no restaurants. I bring ziplock bags and repack everything into the bags, it takes up less room than the hard shell plastic containers. I also refill my doubles up ziplocks with ice twice a day to keep things cold and fresh. Cooler goes into top box. Fuel stops are combined with ice refills. Soda dispenser in all the gas stations in the US, not so much in Canada.
Anyway....I have a whole system that has taken me years to sort out concerning camping that is STILL evolving. I like to try new things and see if it works like the packing cubes.
Looking at at the partial list of gear I typed out, I’m missing things and I can’t remember what....that’s so sad and embarrassing....

For panniers I have 2 sets of givi E36s and one E45. I like these. Lightweight yet strong with excellent carryvhandles. I have a set of E 41s?....the ones with the little lockable flip open door. Givi again. A set of Tusk aluminum bags. A set of Kappa K venture aluminum bags. A couple of Kreiga bags. A couple of givi 40 litre dry bags. A set of givi 21s for around town. Various tank bags...
i prefer the top loaders but the givis snap on and off so quickly and easily that the clamshells aren’t a big deal. I don’t strap things on top of my top loader aluminum panniers unless it’s something super light like my yoga mat or my sheepskin seat cover.

Can't imagine the BTU output on that is very spectacular. I guess it's OK if you don't mind waiting for an hour for a cup of coffee all while having to refill it several times.
look up the Nemo FILO. Not cheap but it’s awesome. I take it on plane trips too.
Actually all Nemo stuff is good. It’s expensive but works brilliantly. I have a “bottomless” sleeping bag from them that fits on top of an insulated mattress. The bottoms of sleeping bags get compressed by the body and don’t insulate anyway so they are added weight, this system uses the insulating power of your mattress to keep you warm so it’s ultralight and very warm, it’s down filled and really like a very comfy duvet and packs up incredibly small. I have a little fitted sheet that goes on top of a big Agnes air mattress and the whole thing sits off the ground on a thermarest ultralight cot. It’s as comfy as my bed at home.

You would be amazed how quickly they will boil a pot of water. Only takes a couple of minutes. Alcohol burns very hot.
