You don't expose the captain to unnecessary danger. He's too important a command resource to risk. That's one of my few gripes about TOS and I knew that when I was 5, when it first ran on TV.

All of those shows were immediately identifiable as Star Trek. Not so with Discovery.

I also liked Enterprise, not sure why, maybe because of T'pol - and Seth Macfarlane was an engineer on it

Edit: does just being a fan of the show make one a Trekkie? I thought that it was more intense, almost borderline maniacal...the type that go to all the conventions and cosplay etc. //

Tbh I never really got into the Star Trek stuff. Watched some growing up...enjoyed one of the movies a few years ago (my son wanted to see it) but that's about it.

My wife got me into "The Sinner". Kinda twisted and tugging at a bunch of my emotions...I wanna punch that JD guy right in the face! Lol

TOS they were explorers.

Away team went down to the planet/moon/station etc. They didn't stay in the ship orbiting the celestial body.

Apollo 11, Neil and Buzz (Kirk and Spock) went down to the Moon's surface, Michael (Scotty) was forced to stay up in orbit where it was safer. I would argue that Michael was NOT part of the away team, and that real life emulated the original series.
 
Explorers? Military explorers maybe...considering how much fighting they did. Star Trek that is.

The Kirk and Spock analogues were sitting at control stations, in Cape Kennedy.

Huh?!? The Kirk and Spock analogues were in the ship doing ****. The Starfleet analogues were minding the control stations, and telling them what they should do.

I give up. Next program . . .
 
STD ep3: black badge, black alert, militarized Federation, captain out to win a war....I'm liking it being darker.
 
The Nature of Things 'The Wild Canadian Year' was fantastic. If you're looking for something to watch, I highly recommend it.

The patience of these film makers is astounding.
 
Broken starring Sean Bean. Very gritty but not uplifting. It's like listening to a Smiths album on a loop.
 
Mindhunters on Netflix.

It's a bit slow burning, but will keep your attention. Follows a couple of FBI agents in the late 70's when they started developing techniques for tracking killers, by interviewing some of the worst inmates they could find. Has a Zodiac vibe to it.
