What's for dinner?

I updated the picture of my ham and bean soup on the last page to a much better picture. Have a look if interested. Refresh the page if it doesn't look like it changed.

...And I am going to attempt a @kwtoxman -ish cook soon; a meal that I saw on FB. Chicken and biscuits in a slow cooker.
Gotta remember to take pics as I go along. Wish me luck!
Also gonna wait till Black Friday for the Instant Pot....or put it in my bday wish list

Now here's a good sale on the Instant pot DUO6. $89 for all those interested.
https://www.londondrugs.com/instant...-ip-duo60/L9284225.html?cgid=brand-instantpot
Last year the black friday Amazon sale was a little cheaper, but you never know what will happen this year.

EDIT: looks like LD removed the ability to get the Instant pot sale price on line.

Good luck on the slow cooker meal! Report back on how it goes. :)

Cheers!

Made this egg sandwich for dinner a couple of nights ago so satisfying that is all I needed for dinner, even though I wanted a whole other sandwich.

Indian omelette (2 eggs, crispy fried onions, green pepper, jalapeno, diced ginger, tomatoes, garlic, cumin, tumeric and chilli powder), american cheese and mayo toasted texas toast.

Walmart price matches nationally for anyone interested. Last I checked, they will price match LD in store.

Told wife about the deal....she said "so? I don't want one." I reminded her about the conversation. She said that her response was "that would be nice". Apparently that does not mean yes. You think after 18 years I might understand her a little tiny bit.....smh

sent from my Purple LGG4 on the GTAM app

my wife saw the instant pot in the CTC flyer, she asked if I wanted it on my Christmas list. I had told her about the discussions on line . Having discussed it she thought I wanted one. No, I dont, just talked about one.
Its been 3o yrs I've known her Joe, why would you have any level of spousal understanding in 18.

It seems that your wife and I may be on the same wavelength @Crankcall ?

The conversation last night went this way...

"Honey, the instant pot is on sale for $89."

I said "Yes I know...at London Drugs".

"You knew and you didn't tell me????" Not sure if she's shocked or upset but I feel a burning sensation in the back of my neck so it can't be good.

"I just read it on the forum 10 minutes ago."

"What forum???"

"The GTAM forum...it's not just about motorcycles you know."

Silence.........

The wife brought one home...what a surprise . No instant pots at Walmart, so she went to Canadian Tire and they matched the LD price.

Ahh, the other half..... :)

Great looking egg sandwich. And sounds very tasty. :)

Congratulations on joining the Instant pot cult! lol. Find some recipes and let us know how it all goes. Lots here are happy to help as well.

Another custom ground beef burger here. Made with a toasted bun, some oka cheese, mustard, lettuce, corn relish and garden onions. So tasty! :agave:

I was at Brampton W/Mart 10/Bovaird this afternoon ( Yes, I escaped without any vehicle damage) . While there I saw a whole end unit for those that may be in the area and want a 6.

Love mine. Went for the larger 8 when CTC had it on for $159 ....sis and colleague at work also grabbed the 8 and love it.

I love content and the 6 will not allow that for me.... mo veggies mo meat.
Hell no recipe should be limited to size.

Thank you Crankcall for awesomeness...and showin how to kick it up a notch. ...feeding 100+....so remind me again why someone would buy a 6 based on a recipe..jus sayin.

To each their own....

Again Kudos to Crankcall and absolutely kwtoxman.

Great feedback. I look forward to seeing Instant pot cooks posted up here!

Instant pot has different sizes for everyone's family wants and needs :). The 6 quart version is most popular, but the 8 quart version is appealing for the big meals. Still, I cook 6-8 serving meals in the 6 quart version.

What's good and interesting is that meal size doesn't matter for the Instant pot like it does for a slow cooker. Any amount of food is fine for the Instant pot; cook one egg or cook 20 eggs, it works the same. A slow cooker should be be at least 2/3 full when cooking.

I'd suggest that anyone who wants high capacity in the Instant pot consider getting two 6 quart versions in lieu of the 8 quart version. The 6 quart version goes on sale for much bigger discounts than the 8 quart version so it ends up not being much more money to get 12 quarts of capacity (two 6 quart versions) over the 8 quart pot. It also gives you the capability of preparing more than one Instant pot recipe for a meal, which many end up doing.

Some more food posts. Likely the last fall outdoor meal of the year for me, and a light shared serving. Greek seasoning rub chicken drumettes and wings, with fresh garden cucumber salt and peppered. :agave:

I'm really enjoying that scratch greek seasoning I made up.

A different cook for me here, cedar planked salmon.

Here's the plated cedar planked salmon in a sugar and spice marinade. The sides are all fresh from the garden; cast iron skillet garden roasted dill potatoes and onions, a carrot and cherry tomatoes. Super tasty :agave:

I love the flavour of the plate, I just can't get past that carrot. It's just there, a whole washed carrot, that you are going to pick up with your hand in between eating a beautifully cooked salmon with fork and knife. Julienne or coin if you leaving it raw or if you want it whole roast or steam it to make less awkward to cut with a knife and fork.

This is how I fuelled up for a couple of hours of walking for Nuit Blanche last night.

Thick cut bone-in striplion with Hawaiian volcanic ash salt, sauteed mushrooms, blistered shishto peppers, garlic yellow beans, roasted new potatoes and my all time fav side with steak, a charred Vidalia onion.

Good feedback on the carrot, and makes sense. Your food posts show a lot of attention all the way down to presentation. I don't deep dive that stuff as often so I enjoy such posts. I mostly plate to eat and not much else. The carrot itself was excellent with the meal. Picked out of the garden only one hour before the meal and nicely sweet. I ended up behind on finishing the potatoes cook and hurried to plate the dish and get eating while the rest of the food was still warm. Also, fresh garden carrots are only around for a few months a year, so once in a while I don't mind acknowledging that with the simplest of presentations on a plated serving.

Love that steak meal.

Cheers

Salmon and Striploin are on sale at Longo's, so we went Surf N Turf for dinner tonight.

Thanks.

I love fresh local carrots, I always have some in the fridge and is a staple in every salad during the summer. I wish I had a garden or even a green thumb to grow anything.

@joebass That rub sounds like a nice goto spice mix for everything. Thats a good son.

I'm sure all he had to do was mix and bottle it, but yeah, he's a good kid. ☺
Goto spice, huh? Maybe I'll try in on the salmon next time.

Thanks @crankcall. Although, it was just one of my easy, regular (and fast) cooks.
I was really happy with the cook of the steak, and with the exception of my salmon (that was in the pic) it was cooked perfectly as well. Truth be told, I actually enjoyed the little bit of charred crispness.

Great cook Joe Bass! Looks tasty, the plating is nice ;), and a great close-up :). It's great to see people getting their kids interested in cooking too. It's a lost art amongst many today.

I've been still having lots of good meals and cooks. Lots of chicken parts grilled using that scratch greek seasoning or some award winning competition bbq sauce. I'll spare posting any pictures of those cooks since I've put similar cooks up lately. But here are some great recent cooks.

This is Instant pot beef barley soup again. Oh so good :agave: . You'll never go back to canned soup.

Pad See Ew done on a stovetop wok. Made with snowpeas, frozen peas, orange sweet pepper, broccoli and shrimp. Really really tasty! :agave:

I've got some more great food lined up that I hope to post. And Thanksgiving weekend is upon us. I am doing a fresh PC butter injected turkey again for the family and expect greatness.
Cheers all and happy thanksgiving!

Just made one of my quickest soups ever...corn, potato and adobo chile chowder. Made with canned sweet corn..tastes really good. It was an adapted recipe out of the latest LCBO mag I think. I added potatoes and deglazed with sherry after sautéing the onions and corn. Lime zest and coriander finish everything off. Basically sauté onions, smoked paprika, garlic and sweet corn. Deglaze with sherry, add stock adobo chiles in sauce, blend with coriander and lime zest...heat through...done. Tastes nice and smokey with a bit of heat from the chiles.
