Cheapest Insurance for 50 year old dad and 17 year old son

Keep in mind these rates are for a 50 year old.

If OP tried standalone for himself, that Fz07 would be closer to 4000$/year (im with aviva via paul south as well)

My dad jumped the gun though and got insurance with TD before I had a chance to tell him about the quotes Chris sent.

You can change insurance companies any time...it's a common misconception that you're locked in. When it comes to MC insurance because of how it's weighted you need to be careful about cancelling policies in the middle of a term however as it can either result in a big refund (a policy that was enacted or renewed in the late fall and then cancelled in the spring), or vice versa, a massive bill (A policy that was started in the spring and cancelled in the late fall).

Actually according to the OP that quote is for the 2 of them

so let's say it's 800-900 for the father, that means as a secondary the son is only costing an extra 3-4 hundred bucks....?

something just don't add up........

.

your right about that

Im paying a lot more for a cbr500, and im 27

If this is what one can get, from the guys mentioned in your post,,,,,,I will be giving them a call today.......

I got a 30 year old bike, I should be able to get my son and me insured for the same if not less then.....cause when I was looking, rates like the ones posted were not even a hope in hell....

Hey Paul and Chris, expect a phone call today.....I want cheap rates as well.......me paying 1200 bucks on a bike on my own that is 12 years old seems wrong compared to the prices mentioned above, and I am with Aviva........

Miracles do exist......let's see if they fall my way as well....

.

I was too shopping around this year for new insurance. From the quotes that I received. Seems that the age of the bike, when a supersport, doesn't really seem to matter. I have 16 year old bike and just for fun asked for similar displacement on bike that was only 5 years old and the difference was something like 25.

most rates are based on claims against a particular model, so age won't matter. Realistically, other than looks and some minor improvements, a 10 year old SS will still do what a 1 year old one will for the most part.

Yeah. For the most part on the street any of the supersports can get you in major trouble. I was just shocked that the difference was only $25 to go from a 2001 Honda Rc51 to a 2012 Aprilia RSV4R.

Wow, it seems we got some really good rates because some of you are having trouble even believing them! :D

In all honesty,,,I don't believe it, the amount just doesn't add up, post the actual document, minus any personal info like address, etc, and then I will be more inclined to believe..

I have my doubts, because I asked around and the best I got on the same bike was 890 and that's me alone, so them to insure two of you for an extra 300 bucks, just seems unbelievable

Nah your dad got those rates, and on partial coverage at that.

So, let me get this straight. I come back with the quotes . . . and you two get salty that a 17 year old can have affordable insurance and I even get called a liar. Fine.

That's a screenshot of the email I got from Chris. As I have stated multiple times and as shown very clearly in the email, the rates are for full coverage.

Any more doubts?

Hey @MicSpartan I see it and I still have trouble believing it! Lol
My advice? Jump on that ish asap before they change those rates.
The reason for the disbelief is that for some reason you seem to be an anomaly. I pay less than you but on a cruiser that's older than you are.
Lol to the comment on imgur saying crazy Canadian rates when we are thinking how great they are! ?

I still don't believe it, as it makes no mention of 2 persons on the policy, it still talks about "you" not getting coverage on the SS, that could mean your "dad" and the following numbers could all be still referring to your dad and what he will be paying...

sorry still don't believe....

Ohhhh and if this is true,,,the Insurance GOD's have been lying to the rest of us for decades, nothing new there,,,,

but I would suggest all you young riders, get your dad's or mom's to get there Licenses, and you all be secondary riders under him or her and enjoy 3-4 hundred dollar rates for many years, instead of paying thousands......

I think I will get my boys to get their licenses and for such low premiums they can ride as well.......

I imagine this is good enough for anyone living at home under the age of 25, just go under your parents, heck even if they don't ride, just carry the policy you will be saving thousands......

yahhhh right

I'm wondering if the agent understood/quoted things properly for both riders, and not just your dad, or he fully understood that you still reside at the same address and need to be listed on the policy as well? Those numbers do seem low, typical of what I would expect to see for newly licensed but single older rider.

If they are indeed putting both of you on the policy then I'd 100% verify that (your name needs to be on the paperwork somewhere) and that you are not limited somehow, and then go for it.

Again, to be straightforward, the reason a lot of people here are having trouble believing that quotes is done right (vs being legitimate at all, your screenshot seems to straighten that out) is because those rates are not in line with what anyone here would expect to see for a 17 year old M2 rider, much less 2 riders.

I'm pretty sure the quote is for the Dad only.

The other thing to consider is, it's based on what the broker has been told.

They have not run an MVR or history yet.

While the quality of agents can vary, if the quote was based on two riders, most agents would mention the occasional rider and differences.

It looks like a basic quote based only on the details given to them.

The devil is in the details.

Yeah its def just for his dad, thats a mix up for sure.

Pray the cops dont ever pull you over and ask to see your insurance.

The problem with adding my 17 yr old kid on my policy is I'd have to get a small starter bike for him(not gonna let him on mine) and then he'd be a principal rider on it and excluded from mine...so no savings there. :(

was thinking the same thing.

Chris got the information he needed to write the quotes directly from me and he has been reading this thread as well so I highly doubt he's confused on what our situation is. I'm done with this petty arguing. If you believe that either I or a licensed insurance agent is not capable of communicating properly, so be it. I don't have anything to prove and I will not be posting screenshots any more so don't ask. It clearly has no point. The quotes are legitimate and exactly as I have described them. If you believe something else to help you justify your own insurance situation or to help you sleep better at night, more power to you. Ride safe.

i don't believe it....

Come on Chris,,,,chime in on this, and tell us, well especially me, that for 1200 bucks,,,,2 persons are getting insured on the same policy, with barely any riding experience, no full license, and one is 50 years old and the other is 17......

yet history tells us different.....

patiently waiting for legitimate proof .....

yeah i dont buy it either, unless chris/paul tell us

Im 10 years older, and pay more for a slower bike

Same broker, same company
