I've never owned a television or bought one.
We had one when I was younger and I watched TV by turning it on, switch to channel 3 for Nintendo.
I've been aware that I have no idea how to operate a more modern television since around the late 90s.
When I go to people's houses that have a pile of remotes in their living room, I never touch it, and I have to just watch what other people watch.
I'm getting tired of watching movies on my computer.
So I want to get a TV that I can watch movies from my computer, youtube, netflix, torrents, xbmc whatever.
I'm not obsessed with the minutia of audio and visual quality. My goal is to be able to click play and see and hear it on the TV satisfactorily. I don't have a stereo system either. I have some pretty sick Bose laptop speakers so that would be my only sound output option. I remember TVs used to have speakers in them, is this still the case?
What I THINK I know I need: I need 1080p and HDMI in. I'm ok in the 40" min to 50" max range. I see TVs at Costco for between 450 and 900 that "look" OK. I bought my mom Samsung a few years ago on boxing day, I think it's 42", it seems nice. I think it was like $500. She gets what she needs out of it, but she just watches cable shows and DVDs. I'm partial to Samsung for some reason but open to whatever.
Suggestions? I'm also more comfortable with buying from Costco unless I can buy something better for cheaper somewhere else (without driving more than 1/2 hour). I live 2 minutes from Costco lol. I have Amazon Prime too so if there is something on Amazon that is prime eligible that is great too.
Basically I'm trying to transition from watching movies in bed on a laptop/tablet to doing the same thing from the couch on the TV.
