Which gun should be banned next?

I agree. It's not that I live in fear that I might be a victim, it's just that I want the option open to me if it ever becomes important. I have only used guns to get rid of nuisance animals like coyotes and raccoons and to do some target shooting at the range. I have never considered the idea of using guns for home defence seriously. It's just not that much of a threat. But the option to own a firearm should be available to any sane person who can pass the Canadian Firearms Course. That is the essence of a free society.

People should be able to stock up ammonium nitrate too. My grandfather used it for farming and it's not like he ever considered bombing anything. In case of a home invasion people should be allowed to have it for self defence. :p

Farming? Did he raze barns?

That was a really good read

Ya, did you catch the bit about rogue domestic governments? They usually come in the form of police. Good luck with that. Branch Davidian, Ruby Ridge etc.

Nah, apparently I missed that

I want one

You should totally get one. You need a restricted for this as its a "handgun". It fires .223 as a pistol. So 10 rounds of .223 in mag.

Or get an SU16 with 18.5" barrel, Non-restricted, use LAR mags and you keep the 10rd capacity.

Its the same gun just with a stock and longer barrel. a 223 out of anything shorter than 16" is just nuts.

Very cool. Just looked at the pic quickly, thought it was a semi auto shotgun lol

I think in Canada it's pretty balanced for gun ownership. You take the course and pass, there is some screening and if you check out, you can buy as many long guns as you want. The regulations for owning a handgun are very strict, but if you want one, you can have it.

i inherited a shotgun so I got my license to keep it, I keep it in my house, but I do not keep any shells for it. Thats my choice, I personally don't feel the need for gun for home defence.

I also did the restricted license as I was unaware I had signed up for both Restricted and non- restricted course when I registered. After handling the handguns during the course I realized I didn't want to own one, with such a short barrel, just a turn of the wrist and you are pointing a loaded gun at someone.

A number of people failed the course for improper handing of the handguns, it's very easy to point it in the wrong direction when loading, emptying and checking the gun. I was suprised how hard it was to load and unload the handguns that have the slide action, you need quite a bit of hand strength to hold down the lock and pull the slide back and keep the gun pointed in the safe direction. Some of the women on the course with small hands had a very hard time with the handguns. Not being sexist, guys with small hands would have an issue as well. The revolvers were much easier to handle.

The instructors were constantly reprimanding people who picked up a gun and put their hand on the trigger during the hands on practise sections. It's instinctive to put your finger on the trigger when you pick up a gun. I have to remind myself not to everytime I pick up my gun, it's a hard habit to break.

Even if you don't want to own a gun, it's an interesting and fun course to take, gives you a healthy respect for firearms.

Of course everyone is clumsy with guns when they're first learning to use them safely... it's because most people have an inherent fear of firearms when they first attend the course.

You have a shotgun with no ammo, and you won't buy a handgun because its easy to point it in the wrong direction? Crikey.. those are some asinine comments. I don't mean to attack you, but that's some stupid stuff. I've never pointed my handguns in a direction I didn't want them pointed.

Talk about a lack of basic of motor skills......

I've gone shooting once with no instruction beyond "only point the gun down range, don't grab the trigger" and managed to not point anything in the wrong direction or grab the trigger. I did have a safety instructor there but he didn't need to interfere. Full autos are fun.

If you don't trust yourself to point a gun in a safe direction, I'm not sure how you manage to drink anything without spilling it all over the floor :)

lol.. I was actually looking into a semi auto shotty a while back when trying to pick up my first shot gun. I ended up going with the Kel-Tec KSG. Its a beast and it holds I think 15 rounds. pump action. Its also very short so its VERY easy to handle. It also looks VERY badass..

Honestly you will get used to them. I don't even look at firearms as "guns" anymore. More like special toys. They only go to the range for fun, so its hard to see guns as a weapon when I myself have only used them as a toy purely for fun.

Full autos are fun.

Yup... :D I know tracers are not good for barrels but (at night)... full auto tracers from a .50 on top of a hummer shooting at a target filled with explosives.. I doubt there is much on earth that can make a dude smile harder..

Child soldiers in Africa agree with you.
