It isn’t widely known that when the automobile was first invented, it had 3 wheels. Karl Benz called it the “Benz Patent Motorwagen” and it was first shown to the public by Mr Benz and his wife in 1885.

Since then we’ve seen a huge range of 3-wheeled vehicles, perhaps most famously the Morgan Three-Wheeler, and the slightly awkward Reliant Robin of Top Gear and Mr Bean fame. What we hadn’t seen until the Slingshot came along was a 3-wheeled design that genuinely attempted to create a modern performance roadster, using the benefits afforded by the lower weight of the 3-wheeled design.

Yeah, no. It's called the Campagna T-Rex, it was developed in Quebec over ten years ago. The slingshot is a cheap copy of that.

Had high hopes but at first blush looks like car with some vital pieces missing. Can nobody build a sensible T-Rex type machine for 15 grand?

I dunno...looks a lot better than a Spyder. It actually has some character. Spyders look like they belong at a fairground on rails.

Not $15K, but rather $36K or $44K...
Scorpion P6.

I wonder is this is street legal in Ontario, the T-Rex was never allowed to be registered in Ontario.

I'm mixed on this. I'd rather a Lotus 7 kit and not wear a helmet but, the more competition it brings to the market is great.

If we could get a T-Rex registered in Ontario, it appears to be a cheaper and better looking option but, I think the Slingshot has better performance.

On the flip side, when Chrysler brought the Prowler to market, I thought, who wants this? The sound and performance was terrible. It looks a bit goofy. Just blow the money on a Boyd Coddington custom and have the right look, sound and feel.

That is the fuggliest thing I have seen in years.

Been done already. It's called a Morgan.

how is this different from a convertible?
minus the fact that you don't have to wear helmets in the convertible
???

So, how did they decide that thing was more motorcycle than car? At least not here in Ontario, according to this:

http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dandv/vehicle/emerging/motortricycles_faq.shtml#a1

The federal Motor Vehicle Safety Act (MVSA) defines a motor tricycle as a motorcycle that:
  • is designed to travel on three wheels in contact with the ground,
  • has seating on which all occupants must sit astride,
  • has no more than four designated seating positions,
  • has a GVWR of 1,000 kg or less; and
  • does not have a structure partially or fully enclosing the driver and passenger, other than that part of the vehicle forward of the driver's torso and the seat backrest.

Same rules would apply to the T-rex, and that old Morgan too I would assume
