Which car. Any car enthusiasts here?

Well, yes because we did preventive maintenance. No dealer would tell you the oil pump will fail and cost you a LOT of money to fix the engine. Nooo they just charge you money for maintenance schedule ********, which is basically looking at your hoses for $300. If you don't take above and beyond care of german cars they can bite you in the *** hard... of course that does not apply to the best car ever made audi 90 v6

Not really. Whenever my ex used to take their car to the dealer they get suckered into replacing things they don't need replacing. Last time there was 50% brake pad left & the dealer was pushing to have it replaced immediately. I told her next year & I replaced it myself. The rear had 70% still

Like I said, ******** stuff. Not real preventive maintenance that can save your engine.

Nice looking ride. Congrats.

My older brother has an x5 which is sitting in his garage useless. The cost of repairs seems to be of equal value to the cost of the vehicle. The x5 was given the worst reliable vehicle in a consumer report, go figure.

The X5 is engineered to break down the week after the warranty expires.

Then it's $800 for every trip to the dealer to fix the long list of things that fail, one after another every few months or so like clockwork.

Don't buy one out of warranty. If you really want one, lease it within the warranty period.

I used to assume that was the case but now that you mentioned it, I am convinced that is the case

Funny thing is.. Wen I was doing my research on Bimmer reliability. It's always the X5 with horrer stories or 5 series, I dont hear too many bad ones about 3 series.

That's why I said on the second page that the 3 series is by far the biggest volume seller so they have the benefit of refining the quality through the volume of owner experience, and that the 3 series was worthy of your consideration. Congratulations. I called the 328xi early with that post. :)

If you want to take it up a notch look for someone selling the upgraded m sport wheels. My friend has them. So nice.

I blame the X5's quality control issues on the fact that they are made in the USA, not Germany.

Generally, reliability issues these days aren't related to where final assembly is done, but are rather due to component design.

In-house, Spartanburg does the final welding of the bodyshell, paints the bodyshell, and assembles a rather vast number of subassemblies onto that bodyshell. Those subassemblies are coming from BMW's worldwide supplier network. Transmission and driveline are from ZF, engines are from BMW's own engine plant (The engines used at Spartanburg come from the same engine plant in Europe that supplies the same engine to all their plants that use that engine in whatever they build), etc.

I've spent a lot of time in nearby Greenville ... at a supplier's enormous stamping and welding facility that builds modular parts of the bodyshell. BMW in turn welds those modular parts of the bodyshell together at their own plant. Almost all of the outer sheet metal on those cars is coming from that supplier ... It is a 1.2 million square foot plant just for doing the stamping and first-stage welding.

The long-term nemesis of most luxury cars is the electronic systems. Those are coming from the same worldwide suppliers, regardless of where the assembly plant is.

I've never owned a BMW, I'm more familiar with the various glitches and hiccups that VW has had, and they're not related to assembly plant location. The high-pressure fuel pump that the 2009-on VW common-rail diesels have (and which has been a source of trouble) is a Bosch component, specifically a Bosch CP4.1 HPFP. It doesn't matter if it came in a Jetta (Mexico) or Golf (Brazil) or Golf wagon (Germany), same issues because the engines are all coming from the same place and they all incorporate the same HPFP. VW is not the only manufacturer to have been having trouble with Bosch CP4.. injection pumps. Ford and GM have had trouble with it also.

Luxury cars almost always depreciate faster than their more basic cousins. Too much crap to go wrong ...

The rims are going to be changed soon enuff, I like the m3 rims but those M rims arent too shabby on the car either.

Almost 80-90% of the e46 chassis had that issue. It took BMW North America awhile to own up to their mistakes. I had to fight with BMW Canada to acknowledge this issue, they still denied, denied denied.

Here is the sad part, the previous generation e36 had the same issue and it was replicated in the e46. They refused to listen to their customers. I will never buy a BMW again.

Most enthusiasts do not stick to oem. Too bland.

If they want to sell you an extended warranty they will.

Nice. One thing I learned about wheels and "stance" (god I hate that word) is that it's a deep personal choice, usually dependent on the demographics of the owner. I think slammed, stretched, bagged and cambered is repulsive on a BMW or Audi but you see it everywhere at meets. I prefer an OEM sport pkg or OEM+ drop and some spacers to flush the wheels out like above.

True. And that's the beauty of my suggestion. Get someone selling their upgraded OEM BMW wheels and save money still with a great look. The ones I posted are 18" too so they will be +1 over yours (I guess) and more forgiving on potholes than a 19 inch rim +.

I simply snicker when kids these days run godly-expensive setups on their hotrods and then slap on some no name Dragon/Triangle/Nexxen tires.

Pathetic.
