Bought bike from a shady stealership. Need advice.

Story goes...so grab popcorn.
I was in the market for a new toy. Looked at 3 other bikes before this one.
So I found 2009 CBR600RR on kijiji the other week. Black on black, ABS, looked clean in photos. In the add it stated that milege on it was like ~6700KM. So I'm like "Cool, low KM bike and price is not bad."
Last Thursday (June 27th) I emailed twice and even called telling them that I'm coming in to take a look at the bike after work, so get it prep for my visit. They were Ok with it of course. I drove there after work, Kitchener to Woodbridge. Not the closes way .
I walk in and they don't even know what I'm talking about lol awesome. The owner finaly comes out and I show him printed kijiji add. Walks me to the bike, then other older dude walks in and owner forgets me. Customer service fail. I started looking at the bike and check the milege on it....Damn it! It's in miles! I switch it to KM and it's 11xxxKM. I tell him right away and he knows I was ******. He started singing me a song that it must be another black bike because he's got a bunch of other black '09's there.....I tell him "No, this is the only CBR you've got in here that has ABS." I tell him to start it, bike doesn't start. I'm like "Really? I told you guys I was coming." He brings out battery booster and says that it has a new battery. Uh huh Ok. Bike starts. Let it warm up.....everything sounds nice and stock. I look at the headlights and both of them are on. I tried the headlight switch and one of them goes brighter but another still stays on. I tell him that ain't right, he said they changed that for '09 year. Lmao Yea Ok! He also kept saying all his bikes are clean and that his mechanic does safety on them. Anyways, looked the bike over and seemed Ok. So I give him downpayement and we basically agreed that I'll pick up the bike next week (this passed Tuesday, July 2nd). I closed my eyes on all the BS atittude he gave me as a dealer, wrong KM ect. I should have listened to my gut but I didn't! Jokes on me.
I get there on Tuesday, they didn't even bother giving the bike proper cleaning. Whatever, I didn't expect more from that place. We finish all paper work and I give him the rest of the money. Off I go with the car following me (brought a girl a long with me) back to Kitchener. Bike rode nice, nothing I could say about that.
We are 20KM from Kitchener and decide to pull over and grab some food for both of us. We ate. Went back to the bike and it doesn't start....I was like wtf?! Nothing, not even clicking. So I get 'er started by pushing and jumping into 2nd gear. Got home and called dude right away. He says "Oh that's weird, if anything bring it back and we fix it." I tell him that I'm going to bring this bike to local shops for 30 point check up.
Later that day I went out with my buddy's for rides, starting my bike every time in 2nd....so not cool. People also notices that my headlights didn't work. What?! So I check 20amp fuse and of course it blown. Replaced it with the spare. Magicaly bike starts now and headlights are on. Ok cool. We ride a bit and my lights go off again. Fuse is blown once more. ******! I could tell that obviosly screwed around with the wiring. We started looking over the bike and noticed that my rear pads are at minimal and break fluid reservoir is at minimal. Even rear sprocket looked warned up. People at the meet who are mechanics were telling me this bike shouldn't have passed safety like that. It was starting to get darker and I had to make it hope asap with no headlights (every other light worked by the way).
So yesterday (July 3rd) after work I bring the bike to local shop (mind you I was riding without headlights which is a safety hazard) that specialises in lights/audio and all other electrical in cars and bikes. Buddy starts diggin and was just "WTF is this?!" They had wrong size bulbs in their that were modified to fit in and all this useless wiring (I should post photos of all the crappy wiring he got out). Unreal. So after all bs and soldering he makes everything stock and looking nice. Just like a pro! Lights work good (low beam / high beam). He also confirms that pads are crap on the rear for sure.
So at this point I'm already going to send this stealership the bill for headlight work. But I'm thinking of bringing the bike into local bike shop and tell them to go over it (like I'm going to sell it) and find anything wrong or what it needs for safety.
I'm already sure that that Woodbridge place did Mickey Mouse safety....what a bunch of clowns. I will reveal their name after I'm done. Pretty sure I have like 30 days to deal with this since the day I purchesed the bike. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Thoughts/Ideas/Suggestion please.

Sounds like you have a US bike that was bought cheap, fixed up and sold here. Nothing wrong with that, if you know what you're getting into.

Also, don't confuse 'safety' certificate inspection, with a full 'Everything is inspected' on the bike inspection. They are two different things. You can search this forum for that discussion.

If you don't feel safe about riding the bike, have your own mechanic look at it. Reach out to the dealer you bought it from and see if they are aware of the issues and willing to work with you to fix things, if/when you find other things not kosher with the bike.

noticed the lights were messed,
accepted a "safety" as a full inspection,
made a deposit on it anyway, when you knew it was a yank bike.
its a nicety for them to clean it, not their responsibility.

you ignored the warning signs. let emotion and excitement take control.
you got suckered.

I have a strange feeling that you are gonna get squat from this dealer....good luck, but you shoulda trusted your gut instinct

What he said^ and tell us what dealership it was, why would you protect them unless there's more to the story

Look on kijiji long enough and I think you'll find the dealership in question.

Your first mistake was not taking the shop up on their offer of "if anything comes up, let us know and we'll fix it". It doesn't look like you contacted them at all after the group ride.

You can try to claim it from them and show them pictures, but I doubt they'll pay up. Even if you went to court, it was a minimal amount (how much for the electrical work?), the bike appears to be in working order now, and you didn't try to work anything out with them.

Suck it up, ride the now-working motorcycle, and share this PSA so people can be cautious when buying from them.

I can see how it's a big hassle to ride all the way there to get them to look at it, and having to bring someone else to get you home (x2) all the while not knowing when your bike might lose power or lights on the way.

Next time I buy a bike I am taking the tank off, bringing a multimeter and going over everything I've had to repair/replace on my bike that I know about. If the guy feels uneasy about it, then he's probably hiding something.

If I sold any of my bikes...I'd love to sell it to someone like you. (I am not being sarcastic either)

At least there isn't anything major wrong with the bike. It was just crappy wiring. Take it as a learning experience and don't go back there again. If it's the dealership I'm thinking it is they don't really have a good track record.

Hopefully the bike holds up and enjoy it!

Two options:

- Fight it....OMVIC - see where that gets you. It will be a long process

- Fix it - see how much this will be.


It is a USED BIKE - it will have issues. always preach - buyer beware.

Glad you resolved the issue without getting the same dealership involved. Do you really want to waste your time bringing the bike all the way from Kitchener to Woodbridge WITHOUT even knowing if they will be able to locate and administer the problem? I'm sure you are wiser than that.

Put that negativity behind and enjoy the machine.

Sounds like VOS motors. Years ago I went there, he tricked me into coming in saying he would get me a good deal on an sv650s. I get there and the ****ing euro ******** tells me there is no deal, "the price is the price". Wasted my time going up there, and the paint was peeling off the front fender, they clearly repainted the bike (pretty bad job too). Told the guy to **** off with his useless con-artist way of doing business and that his bike was overpriced, we got into a little shouting match of curse words, I spat on the floor of the showroom and damn near knocked over a row of bikes and slammed the glass door as hard as I could on my way out of there. I don't know how they managed to stay in business, and that bike sat there on kijiji for 2 years.

Guy's it's not VOS motors but thanks for feedback. I'll stay away from those jerks as well in the future

2500Express, reading your experience, that must have been soem some show. While I get that what you saw on arrival did not fit your expectations, and can understand why you feel mislead, why get into such a pissing contest? This wouldn't have changed anything. Just take your cash elsewhere,...

I am pretty sure I almost bought this bike in May....

I called the guy and told him I was coming in the next morning, I showed up and no one was there. The mechanic told me the sales guy was off at a wedding, so he let me dick around with the bike for a bit. I saw it was a US bike and the mileage was off, also the bike looked it had been downed, the clutch lever and right bar end were shaved down a bit. Besides the bike being an overpriced American repo, I didn't want to give a sale to a dickface who had no respect for my time (it was a 45 minute ride for me to get out there), so I walked.

Rear pads should t be anywhere near done at 11,000 km's. Just checked my own and they're 80% at 11,000 km's. That's a major redflag. Most riders don't even use rear brakes.

What you did is called impulse purchasing. Never ever do it. I hope it all works out but next time do some research and if anything seems off either find out all the details or walk away. There's plenty of bikes out there to be had.
