    I'm ahead $9,500 on insurance

From 16 to 32 I have paid $13,500 for auto insurance. For the early years I was under my parents policy, so it was pretty cheap.
    I have had:
    1 car theft $16,500
    1 car beark-in $ 2500
    1 car break-in $ 4000
    I've paid $13,500 and they have paid $ 23,000
    Amazing but true.

So you're basically validating why car insurance rates are high for young males.

I've given my insurance company(s) the equivalent of a small African country's GDP over the last 20+ years.

    All this and no claims...

If it would make me ahead of insurance sure! Insurance would have to pay out about 17 (yrs) X $3000 = $51000 . Think we could work something out?

it would however be interesting to see if statistically their cars get stolen more often. Probably yes since mostly younger people drive the cars that are most likely stolen......Honda Civic.

Move out of Scarborough, stop with the gawddamn radio THUMP-THUMP bs, stop driving a bloody Civic.

Until that, I think anybody that meets the above criteria should be charged $10k/yr insurance premiums. Anybody outside the GTA $500/yr

My bloody civic could take your motorcycle out anyday. I just installed a cold-air intake, that gives me +10 hp to the rear wheels.

And I don't live in Scarborough. I live in Agincourt!

Now 'm going way of topic:

young males in civics (OK and golfs, jettas and other CT specials) are not only justifying insurance ripoffs, but are 100% responsible for new stunting/racing law...

    Back on topic:
I've handed over just under 30 grand over the years, and not a dime back.
I too would just like lower premiums.

Funny but true, it was a civic, a 2000 SIR, but wasn't modified at all and kept in truely awful shape. And I do live in Scarberia.
The thing had around 200,000 km on it and was worth around $9-10,000. The insurance paid out $16,500. Could'nt believe my eyes, cashed the check the same day and bought a replacement used car & new bike. That's where the money goes, it's worth 9-10 & the insurance co. pays out 16.5. Priceless.

Yeah, they actually look at retail value of a similar vehicle on Autotrader. They take the average of three prices at a dealership, and then also add the GST+PST on top of the vehicle price, assuming you are going to buy it from a dealer. They basically make you whole on the price of a used car at a dealership, not private sale. Not a bad deal! Until you realize that this is black mark on your insurance history and everytime you shop around for insurance, they'll ask you, "Have you ever made a claim?" and you have to answer "Yes"...

They're a business. They'll make their money back in the end.

Okay, how do you get $6500 for break-ins? They rip off the interior or your phat stereo?

I've been lucky, only claimed $5k or so. Got side swiped parked on the street, then my rental car got broken into and trashed. Worse I heard was a buddy that bought a brand new Integra and a few months later had the interior ripped off so bad the ins company totaled it (they took EVERYTHING, seats, airbags, even the carpets). Six months later he changed insurance companies to save $500/yr
