https://www.hks.harvard.edu/sites/d...iceandPublicDiscourseBlackonBlackViolence.pdf 5 years old, but an interesting read from Harvard (Kennedy School).

interesting read MM, thanks

trying to get the social media informed to understand socio-economic factors is going to be a waste of energy however
it's useless for them as there are no pictures - memes to shape their opinions
and it comes from the Liberal Mothership Harvard Kennedy School, Breitbart does not approve of this source

they also struggle to understand that BLM's mission is not to fix all the problems for African Americans
it's focused on one particular problem

Slightly related so it's not worth making a new thread. A Canadian got arrested for trying to poison Trumpie.

she referred to Trump as “The Ugly Tyrant Clown” and directed him to “give up and remove your application for this election,” according to an FBI affidavit filed in the case.

“So I made a ‘special gift’ for you to make a decision. This gift is in this letter,” she wrote, according to the affidavit. “If it doesn’t work, I’ll find better recipe for another poison, or I might use my gun when I’ll be able to come.”

When she was arrested Sunday while trying to enter a border crossing in Buffalo, Ferrier told Customs and Border Patrol agents that she was “wanted by the FBI for the ricin letters,” the complaint said. Officers found a loaded gun in her waistband and said she was also carrying a knife.

They would be better off joining Saint Pierre and Miquelon as a suburb... other than the good people in SPM will have difficulty understanding their Quebecois francais.

Join the US (Trump or not), day one, the official language is English and only...

I'm wondering when the USA will officially become the DSA -- Divided States of America.

Many friends of mine are south of the border, and quite are few are no longer in touch with their friends and acquaintances due to the political divide. The POTUS is somewhat pushing a divisive rhetoric (depending on your point of view of course). I have never come across this in the expanded circle of people I know here in Canada....

The right wing people believe Trumpy and whatever he says... The left says he's the worst thing ever and they refuse to believe anything he says as being correct.

It's a hell of a mess... and I don't think this is going to go away any time soon -- especially now that he is doubling down on his claims that the election will be rigged and his multiple references to not leaving the White House if defeated by Biden. If that happens, I am somewhat concerned about the violence in the U/DSA... My friends in the south have all commented that they can see this resulting in another civil war - with both sides firmly convinced they are correct.

Sigh....

Someone elsewhere on the internet posted a thing about what would happen if the so-called Red states separated from the so-called Blue states (and of course, I no longer remember where I saw it). Basically the Blue states inherit most large companies, most of the wealth, the healthiest part of the population, etc and the Red states inherit most of the obesity, unemployment, and now most of the coronavirus.

a mess indeed

the division started long before Trump
I see it starting with Reagan when he sold out the party to evangelicals
after that it was green-light for all special interest to buy influence wholesale

GHWB was an old fashioned Republican, and IMO one hell of a good POTUS

then came Bubba and everything was for sale for 8 years
Gingrich and the GOP house bunch went all-out war on him

then of course bumbling W and Pelosi at war with him
if not for 9/11 he could have actually been the compassionate conservative he wanted to be

then all of us here are old enough to know what they did to the black guy
sickens me the hatred and division the GOP ran as a strategy to get rid of him
and failed

so all of this led us to Cheeto
without the prior 40 years of division there is no Cheeto POTUS

but I think he's the first one where division as a tool to staying in power is THE policy
he has no policy, nothing, not a liberal or a conservative
staying in office is his only driving ambition

the ones before him all had a governing philosophy they wanted to advance
this guy just wants fame and power and money

don't think I'll consider going there again until they are all done shooting each other

Agreed. Great leaders unite the people. **** knows what this policy is but it’s not one of a great leader. It’s petty, juvenile, vindictive and dangerous. As for the Trump dynasty, I wouldn’t shed a tear if they all vanished into a big hole. They are a horrible bunch of entitled idiots.

My 2 cents: The USA consumer market has for decades been brain washing the US public into believing they are the best at everything in the world to the point of being royalty. Confident people spend without worrying about debt making for a very profitable marketplace. Now that the sham is failing the spin doctors have taken over.

The thought that they have to give up their special status and live within their means is incomprehensible to them. Trump told them what they wanted to hear. Trump told them it wasn't their resting on their laurels causing the problems it was immigrants, the Chinese and everyone else ripping them off. There was no mention of owner greed.

Latent racism becomes overt when it is suggested that what they consider a "lower caste" has equal rights. Hearing the truth is like being told you're adopted and you won't inherit anything.

Their education system ignores the social advances in the rest of the world. They can't comprehend socialism and the money makers work it to the extreme. They can't comprehend feeling safe without a gun.

It really isn't much different than prosperity preaching. Follow me, give me your money and you will become rich like me, just wait a bit.

When a person has been taught from birth that they are special it is a traumatic event to find out otherwise and many can't accept it. Trump tells them it isn't true and he will make the problem go away. No-one wants to find out that everything they thought about themselves is a lie and everyone you trusted has conned you.

Even if they realize they've been conned a lot of people are too ashamed to admit it.

The US has to change their education system but who wants to hear they aren't special. Some people commit suicide when they find out they are just average and will never be important.

You have to wonder about the Democrat Party. For an election they consider so important, why did the come up with a lethargic candidate that shows all the signs of dementia? Hard to believe there wasn't someone better. It looks more and more like another Trump victory.

You have to wonder about the means of selecting candidates of BOTH parties. In the last election, Trump should never have made it through the selection process, but Clinton shouldn't have, either. I think everyone knows in this election that the Democrats will be relying mostly on "not Trump" votes, and perhaps some votes for the vice-president ending up as president at some point.

The two-party system in the USA is revealing its fundamental flaws ... among them being no motivation for seeking a happy-medium.

2015 GOP primary was a baffling one
many candidates more qualified and more suitable makeup to Trump

and it wasn't money that got him the nomination
contrary to his claims of riches and self-financed campaign
it was run on a shoe string budget

the US primary process is very different from what we use here
for example here, not every schmoe gets to vote for the nominee
here it's done at the party convention by delegates only

maybe allowing every idiot to choose the nominee is how you get a Trump

That's because the most important factor is that Joe Biden is "not Trump".

Everyone knows that Joe Biden is on the verge of going senile.
