I dunno how many of ya'll are following along, cop killed an unarmed handcuffed black guy by suffocating him to death as he begged and pleaded for air, someone video taped it, and now there are major riots happening everywhere.
All this happening right in the middle of a pandemic...

Yeah this is surreal on top of surreal. I am worried that Trump is going to tweat some stupid thing that will put more tinder on top of this conflagration. I also worry about one of the whacky fringe militia groups showing up at one of these cities and fighting the protestors.

This on top of being the worst afflicted country in the World with Covid 19 cases and deaths.

To late, the orange one already causing...

Tweeted Trump:
"I can't stand back & watch this happen to a great American City, Minneapolis. A total lack of leadership. Either the very weak Radical Left Mayor, Jacob Frey, get his act together and bring the City under control, or I will send in the National Guard & get the job done right. These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won't let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!"

Also to add, the cop was fired and now arrested and charged with murder. (2nd degree I think)

3rd degree and manslaughter is what I read on Newstalk 1010 IG iirc.

More details have come out.... George Floyd (RIP) allegedly used a fake $20.
Using a fake $20 *could* happen to anyone.
The problem here is, if I did it, I'd still be alive, because I'm not black.
The video is horrifying.
The man is handcuffed and not resisting.
I can't imagine what was going through the former police officers' minds, that they felt the need to pin him down/ asphysicate/ do nothing to help this man.

I don't agree nor condone the riots, but the more I read about it, the more I understand it.
And truth be told, my agreement really has no bearing as not being a person of colour, I am afforded (am I using this in the correct context?) "white privilege".
Rest In Peace George Floyd.

*White privilege is a term used to describe unearned rights and benefits afforded white people in Western society because of the color of their skin. It’s sometimes also referred to as white skin privilege.

Trudeau, if you do nothing else, please, please, please, keep our border with the US closed.
That county went from the aspirational goal of millions to a laughingstock, yet tragic, shitshow.

Edit: despite having travelled to the US more than any other place, I really have no desire to ever set foot in that country again. I’ve heard the same sentiment from a lot of people.

This was bound to happen, with all the senseless deaths over the past year. Like the more recent jogger being shot.
The police are not doing their jobs of protecting people, more victimizing them. Very shameful.

Guilty until proven white.

The bigotry has always been there but when Trump got in it did a redneck rebound and became more overt. I'm white and no longer care to go to the USA in spite of most of them actually being decent people. Unfortunately bigot parents pass the attitude onto their children. I can't imagine how a person with un-white skin feels when they go there.

The American ignorance on the subjects of socialism, health care and education make it hard for them to learn the benefits of an open mind.

I think of Martin Niemoller and his "First they came for.... " speech but using more current races, the Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Muslims,

Americans have lost so many freedoms in the last 20 years but still don't see they're going backwards, trying to suck the rest of the world into the porcelain vortex.

Trump is looking bad but we tend to read what pleases us. He still has his followers and Joe Whatshisname doesn't exude leadership. There was an allegation of sexual misconduct against Biden a month or two back but the reports couldn't be found. Trump will suddenly find them at the end of October and the shitshow will continue.

White house went into lockdown overnight and Trump just barfed up a bunch of tweets basically taunting the protestors.

It's amazingly evident that Trump has never actually read the constitution he claims to love so much. Sheesh, between this and the whole "I'm gonna shut down Twitter!" BS in the last few days it's clear he's not even read the damn first amendment.

It'll take years, or decades, for the US to recover from the damage being done to their reputation with the rest of the world right now.

And unresponsive for almost 3 minutes of the 9 minutes he had a knee on his neck. Unbelievable.

According to the charging documents... both of the other officers suggested they turn him over, sit him up.. and Derek Chauvin insisted they leave him as is. One of them expressed concern about excited delirium and the other checked for a pulse and couldn't find one.. They knew he was dead while they were still on top of him.
According to the autopsy report.. Floyd showed no signs of being strangled or asphyxiated.
