Did you get anything for Black Friday this year?

I picked up a 3 ton floor jack at CDN Tire for 105.44. Tall enough to do the wheels on my Tacoma and my wife's SUV.

The Chinese are coming (back) ?

LOL. I guess it wasn't far ENOUGH away. Friends gave me a trainer this summer along with the RC controller and a pile of other stuff, including pontoons for it. I don't really need another hobby, but what the heck.

High mileage on a surprising bike

I visit the linked blog regularly and his recent post blew me away. Owning and riding a bike for 40 years is remarkable on its own, but to have racked up 321,868.8 kilometers (200,000 miles) on a Katana is incredible. http://progress-is-fine.blogspot.com/2021/11/3218688-kilometers.html

The Chinese are coming (back) ?

It depends on what the company wants or is. I don't know that for them there's enough potential value in offering a best in class anything. The bias against Chinese stuff goes well beyond what the Japanese manufacturers faced. Plus it's a different era. Would Honda have created winning race...

The Chinese are coming (back) ?

All things being equal - BLEECH! To my eye that is one UGLY bike. Retro standard??? I see the standard part in the riding position but how and/or what is retro about it at all? Did I miss the chop-off-the-back-end and-squish glory days of motorcycle design? I realize that this is just...

    Off Road places to ride

I remember that, but differently. Maybe it was another case though. As I recall it was a kid who did what you said but ended up paralyzed. After many years it went to the supreme court and he was found mostly liable for his situation and the payout was greatly reduced but not eliminated. The...

    Off Road places to ride

LOL. Maybe he's thinking that a bunch of dirt bikes tearing around will shake Brampton into action to get the shovels in the ground on the development.

    China

How do they get away with it? I would expect the cost of chasing it, catching it, proving it and then prosecuting it would be astronomical. Then there's the issue of where are you going prosecute it. China? They don't care and they're never going to care. As for someone in "the west" buying it...

    Trials lessons for a beginner?

I would think a trials rider would get pretty bored pretty quickly riding forest trails that a typical off road rider traverses in 2nd or 3rd gear. Not to mention fuel range of a trials bike looks pretty limited in comparison. To sum it up, different task - different tool, but both fun.

    ADV fad

In my opinion you'll give up nothing on the road, but that depends on how you want to ride. Like everybody else I love the winding roads we have and I ride faster than the limit, but I'm NOWHERE near the limits of traction or the limits or of my ability. The differences between my 990 SMT and...

    ADV fad

An under appreciated part of off road prowess is fitness level and general health. As I recall you also mountain bike so you're likely in pretty good shape and good general health. I know from experience that being in good shape goes a long way to upping ones general confidence riding off road...

    ADV fad

I think your 650 was probably better off road than the 250/300 Rally will be. I agree with Matt, get the 300L (or the KLX250) and add the stuff to suit your fancy.

Anyone have an interesting off-season project?

You're right. Disassembling and soaking them in carb cleaner for a couple/few days works. I had a couple Mikuni carbs that came with my commando that were in rough (understatement) shape. Soaked them in carb cleaner, tidied them up, and they're ready for seal replacement etc. by the new owner.

Anyone have an interesting off-season project?

My wife has a 2019 Mazda CX5 and had a CRV before it. It seems to me the Mazda is easier to get in and out. Unlike the CRV I have don't need to tip my head or any make other contortions to enter or exit. I'm able to sit on the seat and swing my legs in comfortably when I had a knee issue...

    ADV fad

I wouldn't go that far, but true single track was not ANY fun. Highway riding was as tolerable as possible without wind protection and power wasn't an issue at all. It was still a fun bike though but not the holy grail/unicorn. My solution is a KTM1090R and this spring a 250/350 EXCR. Or if I...

    Flying Squirrel aka OTOMOTO (update)

Lacing a wheel is A LOT more complicated than it looks. Depending on the make/model the rim can have an offset that is not obvious. At least until you go to put the wheel back on. I laced a front wheel for my 1981 XR200R successfully but I couldn't do the rims for my 74 Commando. The fellow I...

They're pretty good on the highway actually. Well over 300 lbs. though, and I wouldn't say cheap either. Really the only impossible dream from the list is under 300 lbs.

    Flying Squirrel aka OTOMOTO (update)

It seems a lot of companies have dropped the ball in terms of communications/interactions with their customers since the pandemic. I've called, emailed and texted several service companies (septic pump out X 3, alarm service provider, law office) and nobody answers phones or emails. Texts get...
