$60 Wheel Balancer at Princess Auto

Some people question whether static balancing is “good enough” all I can say is that I use to go to the AMA Superbike races at Mid-Ohio and Dunlop Tires had a big tent where they installed and balanced every tire on a simple stand like the one Princess Auto sells. Those super bikes were hitting...

$60 Wheel Balancer at Princess Auto

I always do just because it’s off the bike anyway and only takes a few minutes. I think some guys will balance the rear wheel with the sprocket on, I haven’t done that in recent memory though.

Motorcycle mistakes you only make once... and ones you make all the time...

Biggest mistake I ever made was getting on the gas with a brand new set of tires. I had changed the tires on my ST1300 for an upcoming trip to New Orleans . Normally I would have taken it straight out onto the road and scrubbed them in but for whatever reason I didn’t. A week later I loaded up...

$60 Wheel Balancer at Princess Auto

Yes, I think the bearings on those are really good but I think you would still want a solid level stand to set that on to balance a wheel properly.

$60 Wheel Balancer at Princess Auto

If you’ve got a more exotic single sided swingarm NoMar sells a rod with larger cones that will work on that stand. That’s what I used on my VFR and ST1300.

How do I clean melted pants off exhaust

I had a buddy I worked with that bought a brand new Honda 550 in I think 1974. He told me he was riding it home from the dealership along Eglinton and a big plastic bag blew in front of him and ended up melting all over the front of his bike on the chrome exhaust pipes. He had the bike for a...

    Rabaconda tire changer

If we do it at my place, the wife and I could work out a package deal- new tires and a divorce in one trip, you get to keep both tires.

Agreed, that’s why I put that clause in.

    Rabaconda tire changer

Someone with a garage could maybe start a co-op, everyone chips in $50-$100 for a NoMar plus consumables and gets to use it. Great way to meet people on the forum. I can get my wife/lawyer to draw up the liability waiver.

    Rabaconda tire changer

I just watched this comparison of the Rabaconda and the Constands tire changers. Having done countless tire changes over the last 40 years using various means and having previously owned a NoMar set up these are my thoughts.First, the Constands. Looks like it would be great if you were on a...

    Does Thin Oil Destroy Engines?

I think the bearing clearances are much tighter than what they use to be. I know a lot of old school guys don’t believe in thinner oils but that is what they are designed to run on. If you really want to blow their minds tell them that you change your oil every 20,000 km.

    Appliance Repair

I replaced the circuit board on a Whirlpool stove at a rental unit my son owns. It was the cheapest, simplest stove money can buy and yet the part was $240 from a Whirlpool distributor. You can get non-oem boards on Amazon for half that but the tenants are whiners and I didn’t want to have to...

    Appliance Repair

The two most common problems with old dryers are the door switch (they’re cheaply made) and the thermal overload which stops your dryer from bursting into flames when the lint trap or duct is blocked. Both are $10-$20 parts.

    Bikes with character...

A ‘73 like the one in that documentary sold for $25,000 US last year at the Mecum bike auction in Las Vegas. Apparently a record price for that bike.

#$%@ GP Bikes just made my life harder

Oh it had the rich Corinthian Leather alright.Despite popular belief, it was not actually from Corinthia , wherever that is. The leather used in the Cordoba was from New Jersey, some marketing guy came up with the whole Corinthian Leather thing. Mine had the aforementioned Corinthian Leather...

    Appliance Repair

I went through all that with my step kids. I was constantly fixing appliances. Don’t know how many times I had to fix the rollers on the upper rack on our Kitchen Aid dishwasher. They would jam anything that would fit into it, oversized cutting boards, cookie sheets, you name it. I was replacing...
