    Hard start

How may km on it? Valve clearances checked recently? Sparkplugs? There are some late model engines that are calibrated to use the bare minimum amount of fuel injection for starting, for emissions reasons, and if anything is the slightest bit out of kilter, no go.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

A gear-reducer like the Bolt's transaxle has the best shot at actually being "lifetime fluid". It doesn't run all that hot, there's no clutches so no slippage and no clutch material getting into the oil like there is in a normal automatic transmission, there's no contamination with combustion...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Don't know about Tesla, but with the Chevy Bolt, it has oil in the transaxle (really just a gear-reduction and the diff), and there's no specified change interval. DIY video (looks like the oil drained out looked pretty clear)

2nd Wed of the month, isn't it? Waiting to see if it's less like riding through a furnace.

Test rides on A couple of GS's

Top photo is a different bike from the bottom photo. Top one has chain drive on "wrong" side, so probably a F800GS or something of that sort - broken swing-arm. Bottom photo is obviously a flat-twin GS, so shaft drive, and it looks like the linkage pivot in the rear suspension has come apart.

Front tire wobble, looks to be defective tire

I can see the worn-flat spot in the middle from here. Riding in straight lines on long trips does that. The flat spot in the middle will do stuff to the steering and handling. What happens, varies from one bike to another. Yes, this can happen before the tire has worn to the actual tread-wear...

    Stocks

Anyone who is making money by selling courses on how to make money by doing something ... is probably not making money by doing the something that they're claiming to show you how to make money by doing. Hmmm.

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

In the 1970s and 1980s, cars went to the junkyard with fenders flapping in the breeze and holes in the rocker panels, and often with wafts of blue smoke coming from the exhaust. That sometimes still happens, not as often (corrosion protection and paint technology has advanced enormously). Now...

Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

"Right to repair" ... big discussion. Nothing to do with EV or otherwise. It's an issue with all modern vehicles. Some manufacturers have opted to VIN-lock their various electronic control modules. Means you can't just swap it out with a replacement. It has to be coded to the VIN to match...

What's your most neglected maintenance item on your motorcycle?

You're not going to notice brake fluid contamination in a one-off stopping distance test. You could flush the entire system out with water and use that in place of brake fluid for a one-off test, and it will work fine. Boiling point issues will only turn up if you do something that leads to...

    Buying gear from Europe

I bought my Shark carbon-fibre helmet at Motocard in Barcelona for €240 three years ago. I'm headed to Portugal this fall. I should pick up another one...

    Buying gear from Europe

There's a thing called the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic, which (among many other things) allows tourists to temporarily use equipment legal in their own home jurisdiction, outside of that jurisdiction despite it being locally non-conforming. This is how you can ship your own...

    Buying gear from Europe

Helmet sourced in Europe will have ECE certification but probably not DOT. ECE is accepted in Ontario, not sure about other provinces. It isn't recognised in USA, but I doubt you'll find anyone who cares. I've been using an ECE-only Shark helmet for years.

The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

Careful ... lots of project vehicles spend a fair amount of time without a license plate until they're up and running ... or as parts donors. There's ways around this to address the issue at hand without screwing over the automotive hobby, but it requires thought and consideration, not...
