The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

I don't know if this is bad driving or really good driving. If I wanted to go rock crawling, an Accord would not be my vehicle of choice. Hwy 35 near Dwight

That is a special kind of something to get it up that high....

The "Drive motor vehicle, not equipped with an ignition interlock device" means that he had already been convicted of Impaired Operation and was under orders to use an ignition interlock. Things will be very messy for him.

Like... to be 100% clear, that I'm not misunderstanding this - this is suggesting that the crane should have had an ignition interlock device?

I like how the picture itself pretty much tells the entire story... but somewhat surprised airbags didn't deploy

A crane (construction vehicle) operated on the road is a motor vehicle. Company he works for could be in hot water for allowing that.

I would assume that the crane company would be very unimpressed with a convicted DUI operator. @Iceman has said before that he has to report any off-duty driving infraction promptly and expects to be terminated if it's a bad one. My suspicion (based on no evidence) is that the operator was also the owner of the crane as I can't imagine any company would hire him with an abstract like that.

Ouch. That truck driver is probably on the pogie line. Definitely calling the insurance company on this one as they are looking at a six figure bill (maybe up close to seven if they get unlucky with who filled up).

Also ouch to the math in the article.

"The station owner says less than a thousand litres had been used from the tanks; let’s conservatively guess those vehicles took an average of 50 litres each — that’s about 50 cars."

Ouch to the math and logic. 'conservatively guess 50 litres'?

It was the premium pump only that had diesel. Not the 87 octane, put $5 in the jalopy at a time crowd.

50L/ea sounds like a good conservative estimate considering most people are probably doing a full fill + driving a high-end SUV with a 75L+ tank.

It's not a bad guess, I don't think conservatively is the correct term though as that could go either way depending on what you were trying to be conservative about.

A good friend of mine has been a fuel delivery driver for over 40 years and from what he's told me, this happens a lot more often than you would think. It all depends on how much fuel was in the tank, how much of the incorrect fuel was added, and what type of fuel went into the wrong tank.

That place isn't far from my house. Fortunately, I never gas up there (gas is one purchase where I avoid independent operators whenever possible!) If I did it could have been the Tuono, as it takes premium. Much as I like to think I would, it's unlikely I'd notice the smell until it was too late...

86 year old man on a test drive in a 2020 CRV. Goes wide in a corner, rolls it and writes it off. Maybe it's his time to stop buying vehicles.

I've owned a crv, they handle fairly well for a suv...I would think you need to do something really agressive (or stupid) to roll it.

It looks like he went wide and the ditch helped him roll. Blowing the corner is a sign. Hopefully he listens to it.

Ahh...I'll be honest I just read the article, didn't see the ditch until I went back and watched the video.

Having said that, why is the road like that there? Looks like there should be a guard rail or did he take it out?

There's no rhyme or reason to MoT planning. The straight 1/2 km part of the Plains Rd. W. extension that was built 12 years ago has guardrails on both sides.

The decreasing radius corner beside the 12' deep ditch at the bottom of the hill? No guardrail. There's usually 3 or 4 vehicles a month on their roofs in the ditch per month in the winter. The solution? drop the speed limit from 60 to 50. The result? 3 HRP SUVs in the commuter lot pointing radar up the road 3 or 4 time$ a week (spring through fall) picking off people coming over the crest on the straight section @ 60-80.

Seems a lot of the Honda's are going all Turbo, maybe not such a great idea...and I see ton's of CRV's just racing everywhere on the roads.
