Any GTAM'ers own an electric vehicle?

Well, it was a good attempt to spin but;

THE ROOF PEELED OFF. $70+ grand and the guys roof peeled off. I'm almost in tears just saying it out loud. :D

Find me an article on the last time a GM product worth half as much had it's roof peel off, I'll wait.

Well... the roof didn't peel off, but the new Vette is plauged with quality and junior engineering issues. They clearly bit off more than they can chew. Typical GM. I'm willing to wager the new Hummer will be an even bigger mess.

How much does this thing cost again? With the many many years of car building experience, you would think they could do better? At least Tesla has an excuse as its a "young" company.

electrical issues, space frame twisting, torsional stiffness issues, lousy forward visibility, understeer issues, gearbox problems

But wait, theres more.... Quality issues, panel gaps? Gasp! not only on a Tesla I guess....

Who's laughing now? People who aren't dumb enough to buy one of these are....
Besides panel gap (never really griped at Tesla for this, most mfg. suck at it) your issues seem to trend towards complex mechanical or electrical features. I'm discussing the ******* roof. I find it rather amusing that you believe there can be any excuse for a roof missing.

I'll bet you anything the roof doesn't peel off the Hummer.

Actually i'm laughing, at anyone who buys a used Tesla. But feel free to prove me wrong, go purchase a used one and revel in it's manufactured glory.

see post 4416, I hate repeating myself.

clearly the roof incident, isn't stopping the mass market from buying. thats all that counts. Just as the corvette issues won't stop people from buying it. Well, foolish people anyways.

as a side story, we went to Tesla Oakville recently to test drive a 3 for a family member. A test drive is by appointment, and is so booked up you have to wait at least 3 weeks. I bet you I could get a test drive at a GM dealer in 5 seconds. Let alone, there were streams of people at the dealership, and a line up to get in...

Based on my small experience.... I don't think Tesla is worried.

At least the Model 3 roofs only crack. It's not like they're flying off on the freeway in traffic.

This should explain it to you, Sunny.

A good example would be someone complaining about an electric car's build quality in an electric car thread, and someone defending it by comparing the build quality of another manufacturer's ICE cars.

only in your feeble mind.

what difference does build quality make whether a car is powered by a gas or electric motor? whether is a car or a truck, whether its a convertible or a fixed roof.

Wait a minute.. don't some ICE makers also make electric cars? dont some automakers make BOTH gas/electric drivetrains in the same car? Gasp!

its still an automobile that comes out of a factory. build quality is what it is, whether its electric or gas.

btw, if you scroll back the pages of this thread, there is all kinds of discussion on ICE cars "in an electric car thread"

let me guess..... goalposts moved again? cue the gif

So then instead of responding with shots at GM or drivel about sales you could just concede there is a big time QC issue that Tesla needs to address. Because people still buy the cars does not make it OK to have these issues. Why move the needle on value for money (or a freaking working product) backwards?

As a consumer at any level this should be obvious.

The point is, you asked... "Find me an article on the last time a GM product worth half as much had it's roof peel off, I'll wait."

YOU, not me, asked specifically about GM, although I admitted "they don't have any reports of roofs peeling off", I pointed out that even GMs expensive cars have serious build and quality issues.

Final point, every car manufacturer has quality issues... Tesla included. But their skyrocketing sales and profits proves that the market isn't concerned and shows confidence in the consumer that Tesla will sort it out.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

You actually never said that. Want to revise the point to fit your narrative again?
