Anyone do a family vehicle transfer before

Going to transfer one of our vehicles to the other soon (spouse), got the forms and it looks fairly straight forward. Wanted to inquire if anyone had any insight or tips on the not so obvious.

I've done it a few times with no issues. Take $20 cash to pay the notary at SO as you need something notarized. You can transfer the plates if you want. Sticker will be valid until original owners birthday, first renewal resets clock to new owners birthday. IIRC you need a current safety but I could be wrong.

EDIT:
Make sure SO office you go to has a Notary working that day. Not all do.

No safety required for spouse
What is the upside of a spousal transfer? I have all the vehicles in my name to make life simple with stickers and insurance (obviously wife is declared as primary driver on her vehicle). I guess if one person had a horrendous record you could try to split insurance but when living under the same roof, that would probably just be that exclusion form and it shouldn't matter who owns what.

I'm wondering what documentation would be required
if you'e SO has a different surname?
is attesting on the affidavit that you are partners sufficient?

I did it a few years ago with my son
brought our passports with same surname, no issues

SO can be fussy sometimes as this can be a mechanism of theft

I'll let you know, we have different names lol.

Have to be legally related. Soon to be doesn’t cut it. Both in person at the ministry and it’s a straight forward swap

Took my brother in law up a while back. We walked up to the counter on a slow day and asked. He had to pay off his tickets, but they did it right there.

Easy process. Go to MTO with the right forms and done in 20min max. We grabbed our parents car when they went for a newer model. Safety was needed, but besides that nothing else.

I think that will be the hardest part out of the entire process.

Not all have a Notary and the ones that do have limited hours.
