River Road new speed limits.

Being a “local” I suspect that the next step for the village of Hockley will be some kind of noise enforcement. The number of riders who seem to have the need to demonstrate how much noise their bike can make in first gear as they leave the store may have hit the limit. If you spend any time around there you will see that the store does a pretty good business without relying on motorcyclists and their noise, and I can pretty much guarantee that the rest of the residents have had it with the weekend displays of noise making capabilities. Oh well, things always get ruined.
 
All of this really makes me sad, especially as we can’t head south of the border to the great roads, reasonable speed limits and lack of traffic (and cops). If we’re still restricted next summer...whoo boy.

Cagers can load up a bag of groceries on a regular basis. A rider gets a coffee and cookie once in a while. Some riders think that's important.

I don't see the problem with Chip Seal. I drive on it every day with standard tires and it's just like regular pavement. Years ago however they added rubber (chewed up tires I think) to the paving mix on one road, and that was very squirrely riding.

Are we talking about the same thing? I don't even like driving on tar and chip with a car, let alone riding on it

I assume so. They spray a layer of tar, and then drop small, roundish gravel on it. It is a bit slippery for the first few days until the gravel embeds, but then it's fine.
 
where is river road? Only one i can think of is niagara side....

(I don't normally go to the popular bike places around toronto)

It's not really (around Toronto), it's north of Highway 89. Here's a screen shot showing the road between Horning's Mills (north of Shelburne) at the west end and Airport Road at the east.

SAFETY ALERT:

There is a sizeable deep rectangular pot hole on the tight curve heading north east towards Kilgorie. It looked to be about 6 inches wide, 20 inches long. Be careful along that stretch of road.

I rode it both ways this afternoon.

Yes, river road is fairly dirty, gravel patches and chunks of missing road mid corner, ride with caution
 
Yep, there’s a lot of very new-looking pothole/crack repair. The one I mentioned above looks too symmetrical/man-made...almost like they took a section out, but forgot to replace it with new .

Btw, I had a moment on that same stretch coming back westbound. As I was coming out of that tight curve and on the uphill, I accelerated and felt the front slipping out. Had to channel my “inner Marc Marquez” and got my left foot down and kicked the bike back upright somehow. Burned some rubber off the boot in the process. My poor old CB350 Four much prefers long sweepers to tight curves .

I can't imagine the loud pipes save lives group are doing us any favors. It's likely not much different to residents if you're speeding or making obsessive noise.

The hole you mentioned in the other post is a result of a number of missing pieces from the road surface. I went through there on Sunday and noticed a similar, somewhat smaller section missing in the middle of the westbound lane almost opposite the other one. When the road was closed for bridge repair it would've been a good idea to resurface the section between the two bridges!

That corner is always very slippery and you can find either end slipping out if you carry too much speed. The asphalt is broken up into small weirdly shaped pieces and it's as if they move around as you ride over them. Very unnerving! I think the road base is soft and that has led to the broken asphalt and large pot-holes. Btw, I've had to stop on more than one occasion at either end of that turn and assist riders out of the ditch. For these reasons I always keep it below 50 in that corner.
