[SUGGESTION] Tire inflator

Hello,

I am looking for a tire inflator. Somewhat portable. I found one in Canadian Tire (120V i believe) and after reading some reviews decided not to get it.

So I am looking for a portable tire inflator that would be able to plug in the all. Or will foot pump do its job? Looking to use it on my motorcycle and couple of bicycles.

Thanks

Budget?

If you are plugging it into a wall, I would get an air compressor.

If you want 12V, I like this one. Much faster than the really crappy inflators and they have held up for me.

Honestly for bicycle and motorbike tires, a floor pump works pretty well and will last your entire life. (Link for concept, I haven't had to buy one in the last 20 years).

120volt Plug-in air compressor for home, pressure tester,
and a 10 dollar walmart bicycle pump in your fanny pack (y) now you are ready for anything.

and for some strange reason the best bicycle pumps have always been the absolute cheapest ones when I bought them 2 & 3 at a time

Yeah, that's the one I was looking at. The ratings are quite low... for both.

That would be the plan. But not sure if its possible to find a portable compressor for under 70$ (decent one).
+ I live in a condo and would have to a local gas station to plug in and pump tires. Unless, there a some hidden outlets on P2 level Oo

Was considering to buy a foot pump but no idea how hard/ long would it take to pump the tires.

I have a few of an older version that looks similar. I have no idea if the guts have gotten worse over time. As with everything at CT, wait for a 40 to 60% off sale if you can. I wouldn't buy one for $70, but for $30 it's not bad.

For human powered, a foot pump is fastest easiest.
It's the part that locks onto the valve stem that makes a big difference in quality
and the air hose is very fragile on all of them.
a little oil inside the piston once every decade or so is also a good idea. That and the tester is pretty much going to eat your current operating budget

don't forget the 10$ one from walmart, that's the one you will end up using the most.

My cheap canadian tire one lasted me about 5-6 years, for an initial investment of about $40 i think it's worth it.

I kinda like the idea of having this one:

but i might keep looking around. I use it for car and moto and sometimes bicycle... although for my bicycle i use my floor pump.

Saw that one too. Looks pretty solid. Hopefully will go on sale?

I think i would mostly use it for bicycle. I have my moto since July 2019 and never pumped tires yet (only once at 1k km at the shop).

If I would have a car, I would def invest in something like this.

That brings up a good point. The higher the rated pressure on an "inflator", normally the worse the pump is. The 250 psi pumps are complete crap and horribly slow. The vast majority of inflating will be at 40 psi or less so you want a motor and pump matched to use max pump hp at around 50 psi not at 250 psi which would be five times slower at pressures where you actually use it.

Best one I ever had looked like this:

A co-worker suggested this one

I got it last year, it works well and was under $70, though now not available anymore, there are many like it. Portable, battery lasts a while, I can top up all 4 car tires, use it on the motorcycle, and can set the PSI digitally, it has an auto-cut of which is very handy. Also accurate, I check with a gauge. Can also plug it into a 12 volt if needed. Wireless is super handy.

This looks similar

As for bicycle pumps, I do a lot of cycling and touring, my brother works at a bicycle shop. The cheap pumps are not the same quality as the better ones, despite what people say or think.

this is the standard for bike pumps, it's what the mechanics on the shop floor at most bike stores use themselves. Worth every penny, I've used it to inflate the motorcycle tires too, will last you a lifetime. The bike zone has it in Mississauga, for some reason its double - triple the price on amazon.

Now debating between this Floor Pump and foot pump.
I like Topeak since it can be used on Presta too (1/2 bicycles has presta).

If you have a presta bike, just buy the topeak. You can buy adaptors but they are small, not cheap and always lost.

hehe where as floor pumps are the opposite, higher the PSI the better. The one i have rate 80psi for the bike takes forever to fill tires. The one i have rated at 160 gets the job done in no time. Like, i enjoy filled the kids tires with air cause its so quick (and i kinda needed something like that since my road bike is rated 120 psi, so i ride close to that)

I bought mine for dirt cheap, got 3 of them because i planned on probably losing some. I just keep them with all my other bicycle stuff. I gave one to my neighbor in march and shes already lost it ahahah

Walmart had these at $39 a couple of months ago. I know it's one of those as seen on TV items, but for me it works mint and the gauge is accurate.
