I would suggest your buddy calls the school he is booked with and check. I'd be surprised if MTO did this with only one school and I imagine it will be a bit of a nightmare sorting things out afterwards. He can always get in touch with LC if he wants to. Sorry I couldn't be more help I really don't have any other info and am wondering about some of those details myself . . . how the 60 day waiting period will work, how long they will allow this after the test centres reopen, etc.

I booked in Jan as soon as the schedule was available. I believe it was the second session, Apr 18-19.

Got M1 Feb 18th so that the 60 days fall inline with the test.

But alas, plans change.

is there any further news on this? I heard that it wasn't true!
 
Np I can look into it tomorrow but it would be odd for the school to announce this to all their instructors if it wasn’t happening. I confirmed with them before posting the information.

My buddy had called MTOHP after i told him about this thread and they confirmed they would be going ahead with classes without M1, however, they will not deliver the paper that confirms a successful M2 test until M1 is completed and you return with it.

on another note, he called DriveTest this morning and apparently they plan on opening as of June 1.
 
... and we don't know how they will handle the waiting period. Yes there are a few questions, but main thing is to get people on the lot and learning to ride . . . best for each rider to get their own info from the school when they book.
 
Got an update from the Learning Curves school today...

Courses will be running at reduced capacity. We’ve now decided that we must wait until social gatherings have increased from 5 to 10 people before we can open M2 courses. So we still do not have an official date in place for our opening weekend for M2.

As for the M courses, we think we can start right away. We’re ironing out the final few details in the next couple of days. We’re going to try for this weekend (May 30-31).

So, to boil it down, no M2 courses until the social gathering sizes are increased to 10.

I just bought a bike and need to get my M1 again (used to ride in the past). I've been phoning Drivetest and ServiceOntario weekly for updates and apparently, the plan of opening on June 1st has been cancelled, they're now saying potentially July 2nd... literally just spoke with them today about this. Making me crazy seeing my bike just sitting in the garage..... I need to ride!!!!
 
It's going to be interesting to see how courses can be done.
Non family members aren't supposed to be driving the tester's car for the M2X as far as I know.

Demo bike(s) will have to be separate from the student's bikes. Groups would have to be limited to eight to allow for two instructors (that's after the expected bump from 5 to 10 people in a covid compliant group). Everyone would have to keep their distance during training and discussions. The class portion might have to be done online.
 
The rules are so tight around doing the in-class online I will be surprised if they go that route. We are required to have visual contact with each student for the entire in class portion to ensure they are present and to verify their identity. It would be (not impossible but) very difficult.

@KoreanHarley Is there not one MTO centre open in Toronto? Not sure but I heard that and also heard lineups are 3-4h. Great to get people in the courses without M1 but that doesn't get them on the road . . . damn I feel really bad for anyone who wants to ride and can't.

Gotta get things going again but if you look at what's happening south of us, not a good idea to rush re-opening.
 
There is the downtown location but it's a 4 hour wait, you gotta be there early like 5am to lineup, and 0 physical distancing taking place, long lineups in a tightly crammed facility, oh and only first 80 get to write a test... its quite a mess

Where is this? My buddy mentioned above said someone told him this was the case and i didn't believe him. He doesn't know which location it is but he wants to find out so he can go write the M1. Do you know the location?

Not quite sure, its a location in Toronto, the employees were posting pictures about the ridiculous wait times and overcrowding at the facility on Twitter to get it closed down as it was the only location serving written testing. I cant find them on Twitter now, they may have been taken down
