No problem, dude will not touch a vehicle. After all he was always an upstanding citizen who had a momentary lapse in judgement. The bartender probably stuffed him with alcohol. He is showing great remorse, he did not even try to fight the charges. The system is unreasonably harsh to put him in jail. What good can come out of it? It won't bring back the dead. Only savages punish others.

It would be for a relatively anonymous little guy. Things change when you are high profile with everyone knowing who you are and what you did.
Yes. But money.
I'm a gambling man, and I'm willing to bet that for the right amount someone will rent out a track quietly and look the other way so he could drive there.

I'll bet that most people in this province wouldn't be able to pick him out of a crowd. I wouldn't be able to. I've had no reason to pay particular attention to the case. It's one of a million news stories each with more faces in it. He's far from the only drunk-driving scum out there.

The name might be recognized by more people, but that's easy to get around. If a bunch of his buddies rent the track, he's getting in. Whoever is at the security gate is not going to cross check every person entering the track against all people in the province who are prohibited from driving. That's not in their job description. The cops don't stake out every track day and check who is going in, either.

Just because he has/had an alcohol problem and killed a few people doesn't mean he has the mind of toddler.

I went as pit crew to a test and tune at Cayuga and had to sign a waiver sheet. No ID was requested so I could have signed Elmer Fudd.

Let's assume he's out on Parole in around three years:

Can he apply to leave the country for a short vacation? Precedents?

Will some country accept him? (I wouldn't be surprised if paperwork is already being processed.)

He has been banned from driving for a long time. His kids could have driving privileges before him. Is there reciprocity with other countries regarding the ban?

Does the Canada ban have the power to rescind parole if he drives in another country?

If you do something in another country where it is legal can it be held against you in Canada if it's illegal here?

IIRC Yes for pedophilia but not sure on other offences.

I understand the import laws but not the export ones with the exception of endangered species.

Imagine the ecological damage from a few breeding pair of Asian carp dumped into the great lakes?

The cause / effect of drunk driving on the human population is easy to establish but linking theoretical damage to the environment to human suffering is hard to pre-track. In the year 2030 we could have great hindsight.

If he says clean the day parole will be full parole in a year or so and then once on full parole the legal team will start lobbying to have his licence re instated.

who wants to guess how long before this entitled man child gets a parole violation?

Just to play devils advocate here.
you can’t deny that that “accident“ would not have had a massive impact on his mental state. I’ve watched friends turn from absolutely certifiably nuts party animals to calm sober parents as soon as their first born showed up.
Let’s say witnessing the damage that he caused on that day and knowing that he caused this mess, has actually changed him. I mean how could it not. Yes he is rich but that has nothing to do with the crime, broke people do the same things.
What if the rich playboy upon his release turns over a new leaf and uses his wealth to spread education. Maybe he starts or speaks at AA meetings puts up money to fund rehab for people that can’t afford it. Maybe starts a scholarship for orphaned children to go to college. He doesn’t need to work but maybe he use his wealth to make amends. I’m assuming he’s a rich drunk that liked to party not a psychopath.
I can honestly say that at 43 years old I have never once driven while impaired but I cannot say that I haven’t put others at risk with my particular ”habits”.
I also can say if I was to cause any one harm with my actions It would definitely change my outlook.
At the moment I justify my speeding on public roads by saying “I pick safer spots” lI don’t excessively speed in town” “I’m not recluse when I speed”
Most of us on here would not be able to say they have not ever put lives at risk selfishly for there particular enjoyment. How would it change you?
That memory can’t be erased with any amount of money and that has to be the worst part for him. I would rather rot in jail with no recollection than live with what I had done. And that has nothin to do with my bank account balance.
He is just higher profile than the rest of the dui, speeding, street racing, texting, people out there on the roads.

Again just playing devils advocate
This post is only one point of view that has crossed my mind.
And if it was my family there is a chance that I may have been waiting for his parole.
Because Hunting season is now open.

Also, his family is rich, I have no idea how much of that wealth is controlled by mm. For all we know, he may have gone from prince to pauper over this mess if the family decided he besmirched their name and dont want to give him a chance to repeat it (or at the very least can say they did everything they could to prevent it). If his grandfather was still around, I wouldnt have been at all surprised if that happened. I havent dealt with the middle generation sonI dont know how they are dealing with this.
