I don't mind getting shots. I don't find they hurt too much, and I've had some pretty large needles.

But for the life of me, I cannot watch as the needle goes into my skin. I have to look away.

If I see that needle going in, better make some room on the floor, because Imma gonna faint-tits-up right then and there.

I wince like a little girl and then go home, stub my toe on a tool box, smack my head on a low duct and flatten my thumb with a hammer. Those I just shake off.

In all seriousness, it'll probably be free here in NA and most other developed nations because the costs of helping the population get immunized outweighs the otherwise cost/drag to the medical system and economy, the same reasons the seasonal flu shot is free here now.

Yup. Newsom has already said it will be distributed through the Department of Public Health here. Lets just hope they find one soon

Bigger concern are the lunatics that are completely opposed to vaccines, particularly for kids.

Lol.

The first time my wife to be donated blood with me, she was staring at the hematologist as she put the needle in. I was like damn, you're gonna watch? She's like "hell yes, I want to make sure she doesn't **** it up."

In the hospital she's known as 'sharp shooter'. Nurses call her to put lines in regularly.

I donate blood frequently but I never watch the needle go in. /Barf ?

If you want to go for the shooting gallery look, try letting the kin kids experiment on you. Frig me. Both elbows too purple to find anything so I told them to take the ulnar artery because at least they could see that instead of poking around blindly. They hit it, but damn, everytime your heart pumps it is like being stabbed again. I'm not doing that again.

I don't mind watching getting cut (how often do you get to see inside yourself?) but don't really like needles. I needed some travel shots one time and after five shots in about 10 seconds I had to tell the doctor to take a break for a minute before he kept going. Each one just built on the wooziness.

Yeah....sliced open my hand back in the day doing metal stamping. Had a pry bar tip shear off and slice my hand open right behind my thumb (through the glove). At least it was so clean I didn't feel anything, I look down and I'm starting a nice puddle of blood on the shop floor.

Go to the hospital at 2am, waited about 30 mins. The doc gets some freezing stuff and a needle. My god, he jabbed the needle in and wiggled it around under my skin in like 4 places, I almost screamed and jumped up to run away. Then he tweezers the wound open to check tissue and muscle damage.

He looks up at me and I must be turning green because he's like "are you okay?"

"No."

"Well stop looking then, turn away."

"I can't, it's like a train wreck."

Seeing inside was cool but not something id do again.

Edit: hey I have some neat stories, must be getting old.

Haha, yeah, I opened the pad of my thumb at one point. No big deal, I'll get some stitches. Damn did the freezing ever hurt, it felt like they were jabbing the needle right through my thumb. Inspection afterwords revealed white spots on the finger nail, they were jabbing the needle right through my thumb. Stitches didn't hurt afterwards at least.

Pics or it didn't happen. See my post edit ?

Not surprising.

Porter Airlines says that it will extend the temporary suspension of its flights through June 29.

That's it! Just a lot of blood, no big deal.

Thankfully I've escaped serious injury. Never broken a bone yet.

Kid down the street lost part of a finger to a machine. He had to go to work at 15, right out of school, when his dad died suddenly.

It's all fun and games until they have to take a chunk of metal out of your eye. Wear safety goggles, not just glasses.
I don't have pics, as my eye was covered until it healed, and I've long since lost the chunk.

Generally covering the eye isn't a good idea as it can increase the possibility of infection. Maybe that's an old school GP thing.

Ontario re-opening plan released. I find it almost useless. I assumed we would not be dumb enough to flip the switch and would do a staged approach so there is no useful information that I have seen in this release.

The part that dramatically affects me is school/child care availability in some form. I would guess stage 2 or 3, which puts it ~one to two months out. This seems reasonable. I'm not sure how camps and the like are going to run this summer as it will take some time between telling them they can go and actually having kids attend.

I’ve listened to a few podcasts with infectious disease experts and scientists that believe the case fatality rate is going to be under 1%. That combined with being in my mid 30’s I want to say if the vaccine was $10,000 I probably wouldn’t go for it.

My problem is and always has been keeping the parents and inlaws away from infection. They would without a doubt get vaccinated asap. I'm less worried about our family other than as a vector to them. At 10,000 a shot not covered by insurance, we'd probably wait until insurance would cover it.

At low cost, it gets a little more complicated. I'm not anti-vax by any stretch of the imagination, but I am not excited about being a beta tester with my body. Current vaccines have a long track record, this one has the potential for regulators to waive it through to get it deployed asap. I'd need to look at the research and see if it was well done.

I would suggest to those close to me that are high risk to get it if offered at $10,000.

Your second point is interesting though. Being a vaccine is so far out I haven’t really thought it through. If it’s a low cost option I would certainly consider it but I don’t really think I’ll be in a big rush for it.

Now if it was a matter of you have to maintain social distancing without the vaccine then I’ll be fighting for first spot in the line armed with $10,000 cash in my pocket.
