It just got real for me - confirmed Next Door

How many degrees of separation?

A buddy's daughter dropped in for a visit on the 15th. Hugs goodbye.

Next day she finds out that a visitor to the office where she works had tested +.

Visitor>>>>Co-worker>>>>>daughter>>>>>buddy. How many degrees of separation are needed?

BTW there are other co workers and visitors and relatives etc. Draw the COVID family tree.

He is isolating, Kudos. No symptoms.

My wife watched a decontamination video before and the guy in the video (a doctor) had a good analogy......imagine you have an item that’s been touched by multiple people. Imagine that item is covered in glitter, your job is to make sure no glitter gets on you and then onto your face if you bring that item into your house.

I wipe down the surfaces of anything delivered to the house with a Lysol spray and a cloth. Packing boxes go straight in the garage. Wash hands afterwards, wipe door handles and even the doorbell down.

While we are still in quarantine a dog walker comes to the house. He stays in the garden while we let the dogs outside. The dogs fur gets wiped down gently and their leads and harnesses get wiped down too. No one is allowed to pet the dogs except us.

When epidemiologists look at transmission they look at how close the infected got to other people and what they may have touched that others touched. They will assume anyone too close or using common items will be infected. This virus really does seem to be quite contagious indeed.

Crazy times.

I used to own a textile biz, we dealt with glitter fabrics. There is no way COVID compares to glitter. I sold that business 6 years ago, I still find glitter specs on my stuff

I worked a stint in a greengrocer store as a student in the uk. Come Xmas time one job was to unload Xmas trees and stack and sell them. I still was finding pine needles on everything into Feb.

Already started getting calls from family and friends that they needed to go out to get groceries but the car won’t start.

Those who have cars sitting for weeks should occasionally go out and start and run them.

Stay safe and be well.

TV trucks outside the house again, my neighbour didn't make it - he was 80. Scary close.

Ya. I got word they have 22 residents and 42 staff suspected to be infected. I really hope this things doesn't travel by air -- they are 50' from my house and I can hear fans and see windows open from my deck.
From people much smarter than me, the best vector by a mile is droplets. You are probably more at risk going to the grocery store than from a building 50' away.

wash/sanitize hands after touching frequent touch points (gas pumps, debit machines, door handles...)

I hear ya -- the think that spooks me is they vent the place pretty aggressively -- I can hear the fans sucking air out of the building and see the stacks that send it to open air. Gotta think there's a chance that 20+ people hacking and spewing into the air might send the odd droplet into the external vent system.

My Aunt was admitted to hospital today with symptoms. Was very scary as she has MS and her and her husband have also been the persons delivering food and necessities to my 93yr old grandmother.
thankfully she tested negative for covid19 and is going home tomorrow.
grandma is not showing any symptoms at all.
