motorcycle shipping question

hello: I am wanting to know if any members here have experience with this? I am looking at possibly purchasing a bike from Alberta from a private seller and having it shipped to my location in southern Ontario. Just wondering who does this/companies, do they crate the bike or does seller have to do it, do they pic the bike up from the sellers location and deliver to my address ,are they liable if damages occur, do I need special insurance, and roughly the overall cost? Any input on this would be appreciated.

or contact @Lightcycle
I think he is the King of shipping bikes across Canada, or the world in fact.

Download the USHIP app. Upload a picture of the bike. Plug in your destinations and the dates you want it to arrive. Hit submit and you'll receive shipping quotes. Wait towards the end and the shipping quotes will get substantially cheaper.

Using the forum search function, this one pops up. Pay special attention to the link in post 7 where the buyer bought a bike from Alberta and was unable to get it registered in Ontario (assuming you want to put it on the road).

Ask yourself....

Is it worth it? Are you saving that much for taking a risk buying a bike sight unseen. you. Why can He/She not sell it locally. Something wrong with it?(That alone is a big red flag)

Personally, I wouldn`t touch it with a barge poll.

If you must ship, if you are 100% sure the deal is legit or someone you know is selling or whatever it may be...
Uship worked flawlessly for me from BC to Toronto. Trackable real time on the app. Good prices too.
Good luck.

I second Uship. Had bikes brought from Ottawa to Toronto a couple of times door to door for $200. The trip would have cost me a day and more than that in fuel. No prep needed, 2 guys familiar with transporting MCs loaded into a trailer, strapped the bikes in securely then unloaded the bikes. They sent me a tracking message when they left Ottawa so I could see when the trip progress in realtime.

I tried for a Uship quote to BC and it was no cheaper than flying and more awkward to pick up. $500 to BC I'm in.

Yes. I have experience doing this. We do this frequently. And I am from the GTA living in Alberta now.

Normally, the bike should be prepped and crated before the shipping company is contacted. A good crate is approximately $100, at my dealership we are about $250 to crate the bike up and document everything, sometimes the bike has to be partially disassembled to fit it in the crate. Shipping costs themselves can range anywhere from $350 to $600 depending on the carrier and where it will delivered. If you need a lift gate (ie you don't have dock capabilities or a fork lift) it costs a bit more. If you can work with a local dealer to uncrate and setup the bike before you take it home, anticipate $100 - $200 at that end. But don't assume the dealership will go out of their way to help you as you are not buying a product from them, you may need to make sure they are taken care of to get an appropriate level of service.

If you are buying "sight-unseen", work with someone near the seller, either a friend, family member or dealer. That way there will be no surprises at your end. Alberta does not have safety inspections, you will have to take care of that at your end.

That's the cheapest I've ever heard of for enclosed transport. I've had three bikes, two skidoo's and a car brought out here from Quebec / Ottawa via USHIP. Cheapest was $500. You got a great deal!

Can you trust the people on uship?? what if they run away with the bike ? lol

$200? I don't think I could get a bike moved from one side of the GTA to the other for that
