Classification of Bikes?

Hey guys, I’m 24 with my G and m2. Have been riding for 4 years now with the bikes I’ve owned being a ninja 250, ninja 650 and a vfr 800. My Ninja and VFR were considered sports-touring bikes and I paid around 1100 for them/year. I’m really eager to get a inline-4 sports bike, with the 2006-2008 zzr-600 (not to be confused with a zx6r) being a good option as it is also considered a sports touring bike. However my dream bike is a cbr600rr. Given that it is a super sport I know I won’t be able to insure it this year. However, I was curious about the older cbr f3 and f4’s. I imagine performance wise they are similar to the zzr. Would any companies consider them sport tourers? Or are the universally super sports? I get a little confused on the details that define an SS vs a sports-tour (having sat on each the zzr and cbr f3 felt almost identical).

Not sure, best call your broker

Ya my broker won’t touch a cbr. They consider it an SS. I just don’t get why a Zzr (which is literally a ~2002 zx6r rebranded) is only 1100$ to insure but a 1998 cbrf3 is like 5000$ lol

Welcome to insurance in Ontario.
My ‘16 Aprilia Tuono is cheaper to insure than my ‘14 VFR800. If you know both bikes, this makes absolutely no sense.

No kidding! That’s crazy. Well at least there are some fun sports-touring bikes! The VFR800 was awesome (though mine was a much older 2000 vfr) just not quite what I was looking for!

It’s about $1,000/yr with full coverage, accident forgiveness and $2m liability. The policy also has one car and a house on it.

Eventually you will discover, there is no predictable logic when it comes to motorcycle insurance rates, the people who set those rates don't even know motorcycles, all they know about is money. Don't try to predict it just roll with the punches.

If there was any logic to it at all, they would offer you a discount for removing your passenger pegs and riding solo only.

Very true. It sure isn’t cheap to live in Ontario lol. ... Hayabusas are technically sports-tourers, no? Wonder how they would be classified lol

It's all about claims history
Unless it is a brand new model bike from a brand new to this country manufacturer, then they mysteriously just know for a fact that bike would have had a bad claim history if such a thing did exist :|

Thanks for that. I just checked myself, $800 for the Tuono and $1100 for the RSV4. Too bad both bikes are so small. I'm 6'1 and they both feel so cramped.

That’s not as big a difference as I was quoted. I think the quote on the RSV4 was somewhere around $1600...?
I don’t find the Tuono cramped at all. I do have bar risers and a different bar which make it feel more dirtbike-ish. I’m 5’11” but I’ve got short legs so I left the pegs alone, but I do know that the peg location is too high for a lot of people, enough so that there are plenty of peg lowering kits available for it.

I think this will depend on each Insuarance coompany.

I called my home/auto broker (co-operators) and as much as they say they offer motocycle insurance they quoted me around $3000 for an 08 FZ6. Which is just a sport-touring bike according to all other companies.

You many need to call around a few different brokers/companies.
